There are some concerns about skimmers and activated carbon skimming out/absorbing trace elements that are added into the water. Although this may be true to a small extent (especially the skimmer bit), it is usually not advisable to turn the skimmer off and take the activated carbon. Just imagine if you forgot to turn your skimmer back on one day....Furthurmore, the corals take much more time then 2 hours to absorb trace elements, by which you would have already put your activated carbon back in and turned your skimmer back on.

Second to TerryZ.

If you are dosing medication, example Kent Marine's RXP, you will need to off the skimmer and take our carbon that is running.

The instruction stated clearing on most of the medication that skimmer should be off fo an hour. As for carbon, it absorb the medication and thus making ineffective. You will be throwing good money to waste.

Coming back on trace element dosing, in my case, I never off my skimmer and take out carbon. No much impact based on experience, which is purely my view.

Since dosing of trace element is a often regular task, turn off and ON your skimmer (electrical) device will shorten the life spam of the pump.

My skimmer is on timer and it shut off daily from 2-7am So I'm normally dosing trace element weekily morning during my skimmer is on off duty time.

Why is your skimmer on timer? You mean 2-7am you LS do not give out waste?

The main purpose of the skimmer is to get out waste, uneaten food, etc, quickest time possible so they do not break down..

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

No feeding after 9pm and skimmer should be sufficient to take out all the DOC after 3 hrs different. btw, I have monitor several time and found that my skimmer almost never work at midnite time so to save some electric, I timer off to let my best horse to rest mah :D .

btw, I intend to add in scrubber screen soon and hope both can work hand in hand :eyebrow: !

bro, last time.. i tot the same as you, *mine is fowlr*.. it relies on skimmer alot as it produced oxygen, after 1 week of turning off at night. 1 yellow tang that had been with me for months just died out of no reason.. after that i skipped the idea of offing the skimmer at night.. turning it on 24 hours, no casaulty after that.. (wavemaker was on)

just sharing what i exp before :(
