AP, thanks for the tips. So for your case which of the product did you use? And for my case like my FOWLR w/o any sandbed, do you think I can use the same product that you tried?

you're welcome weileong....I'm using the TurboStart #900 the concentrated form at the moment.

yes , It works alot better in a FOWLR and you can combine it with Fritz Zyme #360 for solid matter but you need to space out the dosage.... :)

bro.Alpha.....sorry for using your thread....I'm homeless at the moment....

No Worries AP.

Did a Nitrate test lastnite with salifert and its almost 0. yeah!!!!! Quite suprising actually with the amount of algae on my sandbed that i have 0 nitrates.

Maybe the algae is using the nitrates up as fast as they are being produced or maybe the new beckett skimmer is so effective that after 1 week of operation, it manages to tremendously reduce the DOCs and thus lower level of nitrates? or maybe even a combination of both...

Can see that the algae on the sandbed is thinning out and receding on a daily basis so thats a good news. Black cuke can really clean up sand big time! yeahhh!

Just got my 3rd Tunze 6100 and hooked it up liao. water turned dirty instantly... must be all the hidden dirt amoung the rocks that was blown off with the added flow and new water direction from the new stream.

Well , I guess its better for it to be in the water column than on the rocks or sandbed..

Beckett got a lot of work to do liao.. hehehe :)

Well, if u r going to go into SPS big time... the more flow , the merrier.. hehe but LPS will wave like crazy ...

From what i gather amoung the senior reefers and mods, there is no such thing as too much flow for SPS tanks... but gotta watch out for sand being blown around... thats why the tanks in RC are now going Bare bottom so no problem with sand being blown around... latest trend! hehe

Only downside to a bare bottom tank is that it looks pretty 'ugly' and fake. the best the reefers in us could come out with is sumthing called a starboard or sumthing like dat which i gather is pretty much like the white cutting board we use to cut vegetables etc etc..

I'm think in of sticking to a bare bottom concept too...

A reefer did suggest using a acrylic plate coating it with silicon and a layer of sand as base.. :)

Reckon that's the only way if my plan for a 6080 for my 2 footer reef is to be carried out...

I saw in Bangkok someone use bare bottom. After a while, all the coraline algae will grow on it. It looks quite natural. So you can use TS48, or 2 x TS48 also no sand storm liao. hehehe.

The question is, without DSB, how to remove nitrate? Unless you have a very big sump.

Wah...Alfa, you really invested in 3 x 6100? Expensive investment but I'm sure worth it. I'm saving money to buy my second and 3rd 6100 too. Only have one so far.

Yeah...can imagine when you have 4x6100 blowing at each other, and your LPS is waving like crazy undernealth..... may become "botak" very soon. hehehe

I may get an extra 6100, but use it at 50% flow...so is not too strong. My intention is to keep the sand bed clean.
