Trouble with Hydrometer

Hi reefers,

I got a swing arm hydrometer to start off my 2 ft soon-to-be marine tank.

Just noticed it has a "25 degrees" carved on it. Does it mean it is only accurate at that temp?

Model/brand: WaterOne WT-11

Got a website for temp correction of SG but i'm not sure if it works or if i should use it.

Thanks!

My layman takeaway from my research done a long time ago is tt temperature doesn't affect salinity. It affects speciic gravity.

Err does tt answer your qn?

Yeah. The hydrometer measures SG, thats why I'm wondering if I should do any compensation for the readings I get off this meter.

Don't worry bro Comycus, I'm pretty excited about this project, would like to start off on the right foot, won't let comments like this disturb me.

Sorry Clowny_lover if the question sounds stupid to you, I would like to get this going right, you can ignore the thread if its too basic for you. Rest assured I've read up on articles on setting up tanks, this is an unexpected event.

So should I do any compensation for the readings? :)

Happy reefing.

I believe salinity is the reading you should be gunning for, therefore yes you should compensate. Also, I would suggest getting a refractometer in future if your budget allows. It is a piece of equipment that comes in handy in this hobby :) Well worth the investment.

Since you sound like me, who doesn't mind reading lengthy discussions/information to stay informed, you might be interested in this particular discussion: http://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/showthread.php?t=49255

Should be worth your 10-15min :)

And welcome to SRC! I'm looking forward to your project already!
