Help, sumthing killed my red hermit crab

This morning i saw my hermit crab happily eating algae on my live rock.

When my hermit crab gone inside the cave suddenly i hear many "kiack" "kiack" "kiack" sound.

5 mins later i came back and saw my hermit crab legs and claws dislocated on the side.

Do anyone have the same experience or knows what creature that is?

take out the rock and leave it in the open for about half a day. *occassionally spray some saltwater over it. (Do not place it under hot sun) The mantis and other crabs should come out. ...

Either Mantis or Pistol shrimp. It's going to be tough to get them out.

"kiack" "kiack" "kiack" means pistol shrimp - confirm, take out the suspected rock where the shrimp may be hiding and do a fresh water soak for at least 15 mins. Anything alive in that rock should come out in the fresh water.

Yeah. Freshwater soak will even save you the trouble of killing them....

Ahaha my 3inch mantis has escaped into my main tank countless times. usually I just put some food at the top and he will come swimming out and I just net him.. quite easy

"kiack" "kiack" "kiack" means pistol shrimp - confirm, take out the suspected rock where the shrimp may be hiding and do a fresh water soak for at least 15 mins. Anything alive in that rock should come out in the fresh water.

Soaking the rock may fixed the problem but may also introduce another problem - incidental casualties. Other living things in the rock may also be exterminated and start to decay and the liverock will then need to be re-cured. Putting the rock back to the tank may introduce ammonia spike.

Trapping is another possible solution but will require some patience. Good Luck.

Hey guys!!! got another funny discovery today.

In the morning when i on the light, I SAW MY HERMIT CRAB AGAIN!!!!

there are 3 possibility

: 1. there are 2 hermit crab in my tank , but i only bought 1.

: 2. the creature had took away only some limbs of my hermit crab.

: 3. the hermit crab shed skin??!

Hmm.... then what about the kiack kiack sound?

Most probably it's no. 3. I saw my hermit crab limbs lying on the ground one day but it was just walking around near to it. But you still probably have a mantis/pistol in your tank, just that it hasn't killed your hermit.. yet..
