Is it because there is not enough algae for it? It seems to be picking food off the LR and tank walls though... but it is confirmed smaller than last time... will it die slowly from hunger?

yes, this benny feed on algae on the rock and glass wall... i have 1 in my tank, they will help you to control your hair algea problem effectively. however, you need to have a lot of LR..... they will not die immediately, usually, it will take at least 2~3 months for a fish to die of hunger...
