Hi, what is the best way to keep live rocks for about 3 weeks before using it in the tank?

Can I put it in a tub/pail with tap water in it?

Thanks!

Tap water will kill off the organisms in your live rock. In 3 weeks, you will end up with dead rocks instead!

You need to cure them in saltwater and aerate vigourously with a wavemaker to ensure there are no dead spots. Dead spots areas will also result in die offs. Add an air pump to ensure that temperature is kept cool. You dont' want temperature to build up and result in die offs too. Lastly, it would be good to install your skimmer in the pail during this period.

ha ha.. sounds like you need to keep an aquarium in the pail... buy some fish, you got yourself a tank...

I'm terribly sorry, i'm probably part of the reason why your tank is held back... my apologies!

do more WC as your rocks will leech po4 when the coraline die off. You can check with dachkie as he measured the water where just place his rock in a pail with airstones.

I am just an average FR (fish reefing) writer. If you like my FRs, please upz my points.
