Hi gurus, need some advice on the JBJ 24 tanks. For better air circulation, is it better to have the tank with or without the hood? Of course if without the hood, a separate lighting is needed. Thanks.

Yeah for better air circulation, of course without hood is better.

PH will be higher too and easier to perform maintenance.

If you getting open hooded ones but would like IOS, you can check out Peacemaker thread.

18W T5 lighting is available for 1.5 ft length tanks.

if you have an IOS. get the tunze 9002.

Without IOS like mine, I am experiencing a lot of microbubbles in the tank.

light - you can choose T5, LED or MH depending on what livestock you want to keep.

Just to note: the tunze is dependent on water level. Will have to top up religiously everyday or get a auto top up.

you can order the cup from RD or just patch it up. should be ok.

For boyu, you get pay what you get for it ... hehe......

the other one is red sea skimmer.

There are quite a few beautiful 24G tanks here which you can browse through to see what has beeen done. Good not only to learn how they setup, but also learn from their experiences.

Can try hunting in pasar malam to see if you can get a second hand skimmer.

evaporation rate is very low in my tank due to the cover.. in fact.. i did not top up much water for the past year..

Ok just an update ... ive gotten myself one with hood since buying a PL light is gonna add more to my $$$. Tight budget lah for now. So decided to go with the hood which comes with 2 PL lights, LEDs and fans too. But setback there is no way to add skimmer ... hmmm ... thus have to do more frequent water changes.

For the JBJ 28G HQI Nano, the Tunze 9002 will only fit in the middle compartment, the sides where the returns are located are too narrow to fit it in.

As this is where the overflow is, the water level there is pretty stable, it will only drop if your tank is _seriously_ running low, heh.

Not so sure about the chamber arrangement for the 24G though
