Hi, I have got some live rocks in my tank now and doing some cycling. On these rocks that i bought, it came with some corals as well. When i on the night last night, it opened up but this morning, it all shrivelled up. My questions is, for any type of corals, what is the illumination period? I tend to only on the lights at night via a timer. I plan to have it on for at least 6 hours a day only. Is that sufficient? I am using 2 T5 Marine Light and a PL 36W Light for my 2 x 2 x 2 (234L) tank.

Kindly advice if you can.

Yes the lighting schedule should be enough. What sort of corals were on the live rock? They will prob die off during cycling anyway. Let the cycling process be completed before adding any fishes or corals or you will just cause additional die offs.

6 hours to 8 hrs should be fine, depending on the corals. Duration is one, the combi is another. For your new coral, go and identify them before deciding. They need time to adapt, once aclimatised and with consistent parameters, they will do well.

Thanks people. I will go and take a picture of it tonight. One of them looks like a mushroom and when there is light, the black or dark brown tentacles start to extend out. The other one is very small only, with luminous green tips. Not sure what they are. Will post pics tonight.

Ok. will have to get a timer to do the illumination period.
