Prodibio Bio Clean/Bio Digest/Reef Booster

I'm considering using Bio Clean & Bio Digest to control the NO3 in my tank and also dosing Reef Booster.

But I would like to have some comments from users on the effectiveness of Prodibio Bio Clean & Bio Digest for controlling NO3 levels in your tank and also whether Reef Booster is really as effective as it is made out to be.

I have good & bad experiences. Good experiences using for new setups in establishing bacterial populations. Bad experience in adding Biodigest to my established tank. Killed 3 picasso clownfish..while my other fish were unharmed.

i used this for the setup of my new 5feet tank, might be i did step by step (with no live sand but got live rock) it kinda works without the tank having "new tank synd"

So I gather that Bio Digest and Bio Clean are effective in reducing nitrates? Which is actually better for reducing nitrates quickly, say from 100ppm to 10ppm?

Any comments on Reef booster? Does it actually enhance LPS colouration and growth?

I have used biodigest to set up two tanks so far and have also been using it for on-going maintenane. The product does really work as claimed especially during startup. you don't have to wait for weeks or even months for the tank to mature before introducing livestocks. After dosing adequate biodigest, leave it for 2-3 days and you can start introducing livestocks including corals. It sure makes the hobby more enjoyable.

Bro FuEl, I don't believe biodigest is responsible for the death of your clown fishes. Biodigest is all good bacteria and there is no danger from having too much of these bacteria at all. I have never lost a fish by dosing biodigest and i have been using it for almost two years. I am pretty sure your clowns died of other reasons.

Hmm, the clowns were kept in sterile conditions with UV filtered water. They were fine until I added this into their tanks. Not sure what went on but my clowns showed signs of bacterial infections commonly associated with gram negative bacteria. I am not sure if the Pseudomonas sp. in biodigest caused any side-effects but all my fishes are alright, only the fishes from ORA succumbed. Most species of Pseudomonas are pathogenic to some extent, not too sure for the one used in biodigest.

i have added a total of 12 clown fishes, 4 alardi, 1 clarkii and all rest true percula, mostly from CF, so far only 1 survived for about a month, all the rest died within a few days with bacterial infection signs.

This may or may not be linked to biodigest though. any other bro have similar experience to share?

I been using Bio Digest for regular maintenance (dose every 2 weeks) and my clowns been with me for 2years + now. According to my limited knowledge, that you will also need Bio Tim. So I dose Bio Digest and next day dose Bio Tim, repeat same process every 2 weeks.

it looks like Brooklynella, or it is Brooklynella, haha....unfortunately i didnt take pictures

but based on info from the wen, if it was Brooklynella, then the fish should die very fast like wihtin a day or two, but mine lasted around 4days.

you are correct on bioptim, but i dose vodka + TM trace elements instead to save a bit haha.....

hi bro,

from my experience, i find clown fishes one of the easiest fishes to keep and so i find it strange to hear of your problems. one thing you need to keep in mind is that clown fishes are highly territorial and they love to make their homes in anemones and in their absence, corals with bushy long polyps such as gornios. so if you don't have enough of these 'homes' for your 12 clown fishes, they will fight over them all the time. i have used biodigest for a long time now and never had any problems with keeping clown fishes alive. in fact, i have kept other more difficult fishes like powder blue tangs and regal tangs alive for more than a year.

it's hard to tell how the bacterial infection in your tank could have developed without knowing the full details of your tank history. it could possibly be introduced through a new acquisition for example. if you have been stuck with this problem for a long time and the problem persists, my advice is for you to start all over again. if possible, you should even discard the old sand and rocks just to make sure the infecting bacteria is totall gotten rid of.

Not necessary. They have Bio Clean that has 15 vials of Bio Digest and 15 vials of Bioptm.

Most people in RC actually use Bio Digest with vodka dosing.

I have been using bioptim together with biodigest for almost two years now and must say i am pretty happy with the results. I just checked the back label of my box of bioptim and this is what it says:

- Bioptim Marine provides bacteria with all the missing micro-nutrients, trace elements, selected amino acids, natural vitamins (Riboflavin) and surface agents from plants to facilitate absorption of the components by the cells.

- Bioptim Marine dynamises these bacteria and enables a reduction in nitrates, phosphates and carbohydrates, a decrease in silt, mulm and filamentious algae, and an improvement to the quality of the water.

- Bioptim Marine maintains a raised Redox potential and reduces infections and mycosis.

- Bioptim Marine in combination with Biodigest revitalises your aquarium. The result is a clean tank, healthy fish, vigorous plants, flourishing invertebrates.

So i think it is more than just bacteria food. Nnot sure if vokha does all these as well but i think i will just stick to bioptim and keep the vokha for myself.

Question - does anyone know for sure that bacteria don't get tipsy or something for if they do, it can sure as hell explain all the bacteria infection we've been hearing about. lol

yes, clown fishes supposed to be easy and in fact i have no problem keeping other fishes such as anthias, tangs. and btw, i didnt add in 12 at a time, 2 at a time and i do have 2 anemones.

my intention is just to share, but it seems mine and fuel's are just two apparently isolated cases while the majority dont have any issue. Then, it's good to be true this way so i can *safely* continue with biodigest......just no more clownfishes, haha...
