Controlling flow level

Hi All,

My 2 x 2 x 2 tank (225 L) has some problem and i hope some members here can help me out.

I just bought a new Ehiem Pump, model 1250 to help in my flow rate as the previous one was too big and fast.

I cannot seem to be able to control the water level in the sump still. Sometimes the water level is too low or too high.

Can anyone suggest some solution? I am currently controlling it using the valve but still don't feel safe. I have even

though of buying the same pump for taking in water so that the flow rate between the output and the input is the same.

Will that help?

Thanks all.

There should only be 1 return pump from your sump. Isn't it?

If yes, you shd have a valve to control the inflow from pump in sump into main tank. It will be better if you have another valve to control the outflow from tank via overflow into sump .

Let me know if I have read it wrongly.

you can try to switch off the pump.. (pretend there's a blackout/cut in power supply)

see if the water level overflows...

if it doesnt, you can paste a masking tape, or make a marking at that particular water level...

so whenever you change water, or top up water,

you wont pour too much water in that in an event of a blackout, you will flood your place..

i hope you get what i'm trying to say.. haha :whistle

When topping up water, should we top into the sump or the main tank? is there any different if a sump system is use?

Current Tank(s) :

What in my mind now (future tanks)

JBJ 28g Tank . Maxspect G1 110W + 12W DIY LED . Tunze 9002 Skimmer . Vortech MP10w ES . SPS only Tank . Picasso Clown Fish (2009 to 2011)

nope it ok to fill in main tank or sump if using NSW but for DI/RO best still by the sump as it'll mix with the salt water

10 December - Sand was added and some water was removed to balance out the volume of water needed in the tank.

Not sure if this is normal:

1) The water is pumping out from the tank (Meaning the sump will get lower at the pump section)

2) The water in the tank rises and covers the Durso pipe, more water is being pump back to sump

3) As water falls in main tank, the flow from the durso pipe slows down but the sump water rises

4) The cycle repeats itself.

Is that normal? Is the water meant to rise and fall in the sump?
