SRC Member qwertman321 Posted December 7, 2009 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 7, 2009 good question. how then does the water reach inside? im not too sure too. the bacteria is the one denitrifying. not the water itself. substances can diffuse in and out of the sand bed without problems. perhaps that is how the bacteria reaches the NO3. strong flow is good for a tank with DSB too. you don't need a DSB since ur tank is so small. it will be ugly and you just don't need it. personally i have never tried DSB, but would like to in the future. Do u think i could block up a corner as high as my tank and put a DSB? i wanna keep SPS!
Senior Reefer yikai Posted December 7, 2009 Senior Reefer Share Posted December 7, 2009 why do u use freshwater sand?? aragonite sand is better.... it buffers your tank water and help stabalie the Ph. moreover, at ph 8 and above, aragonite dissolves and provides calcium. keeps the tank alkaline too... but still must dose. The sand is Too expensive.I would rather use the leftover money to buy the addictives and dose. each pack of black sand i buy save $48,which means i could buy $48 worth of additive. i use 3 packets of sand = $48 x 3 worth of addictives

SRC Member LaW Posted December 7, 2009 SRC Member Share Posted December 7, 2009 a small tank is hard to maintain pH aragonite sand is better for small tank to help maintain it beside, u need less than 1 bag to fill ur tank. i suggest aragonite sand as well pH is nano is hard to maintain have fun Quote If a man could beat his own fantasy. SRC Member LaW Posted December 7, 2009 SRC Member Share Posted December 7, 2009 of course, it dissolve to maintain pH ur tank is extremely small, topup wont be a problem and its not like topping up often. jackywongto
Do ur PH swing Up only? or Up and Down? at night , when CO2 is higher, PH will always be lower. In the day, CO2 is lower, PH will always be higher. So throughout a 24 hr period, PH will swing according to the above. The question is how much it swings. The lesser will be better.
