Wa tat's a lot of fishes for a 4ft tank. But your tank is well scaped with ample swimming space plus some of the fishes are small, so the tank does not look overly crowded.

FINALLY I got my condenser!! :) Nelson from Chilldown came and installed it .. very neat and tidy work... of course before that I had to get my carpenter down to cut through my wooden frame on my patio doors and also to cut the fish tank cabinet so that the trunking can go along it....

I will be buying those laminate paper from the DIY stores to disguise the white trunking and I also have the cabinet laminate to cover the white trunking part along the tank. :)

My Arctica 1/4 HP chiller is now removed and pending for sale.. so .. anyone out there wants a 1 yr 2 months and 26 day old chiller? :) PM ME!

Say hello to 2 1/2hr down time and 25 minute of run time for the compressor! You've placed it indoor too, similar to mine!

Compressor is actually outdoor... It's outside our living, near the sheltered patio, next to it is a small wooden cabinet for our FW fish food etc and then the small FW water feature.

What are the advantages of having a condenser unit vs a chiller?

Main advantage is the chilling time is drastically reduced. In fact it takes about 20mins to chill down to 26 degrees (from 27) whereas in the past it will take more than 1 hr to chill down from 27 to 26.5. So it can chill down to lower temperature at shorter time. So more energy efficient.

Another advantage is to remove the chiller from inside our dining room to the outdoor patio so we don't feel the heat.

lastly, a new 1HP outdoor condenser unit costs about the same as 1/4 HP artica chiller.. so you can see the difference/savings.

If we had set up the tank in our current place last year Jan (we moved in Oct last year), we would have definitely gone for condenser unit in the first place and prob a bigger tank (min 6 ft) :)

THanks ketchup!!! but I already have them sitting in my room with SVS PB13. Kinda overkill and crazy to run two subs in a small room :P

Was actually going to check with you guys what amp you all using.

Anyway, back to topic..is the heat emitted by the condensor very hot? I will be installing it beside my tank in the living room facing a wall. :(

JL2309... ya i heard from Nelson. For the heat, it's warm air and since it doesn't kick in as often, i think shd be bearable for you.

As for amplifier... We bought the Yahama RX-667

I think it's as good the the Onkyo (608?) and Denon (1911 or 2311 i think) model that i shortlisted but decided to go with Yamaha.

A wise upgrade to a condenser chiller indeed thumbsup.gif, how i wish i could have a outdoor patio like you guys to place the compressor outdoor :( Another advantage of running a compressor chiller is without having another pump to pump water thru the chiller to chill the water inside your tank, the direct contact of the titanium coil to the water will enable the water to chill much faster . Overall i bet there will be a significant electricity saving . Do keep us posted heehee..

Yeah Larry, I am now going to look at my electricity bill most carefully for the next 3 months or so and see whether there's any difference... problem is that the past month plus ketchup and I have NOT used our aircon at night but the last couple of days including today is SO HOT... we have been turning it on.. so... LOL Hahaha a bit hard to compare but I suppose a time span of 4-6 months I should be able to see what's the difference in electric bill.

I have had to put in a mini aquabee pump to have some current flowing against the titanium coil so that the cold "oil" in it doesn't get clogged up if the area around the coil is stagnant as according to nelson the area where i put my coil in doesn't have enough flow.. anyway the heat coming out of that mini pump is minimal :)

@ siangz... aiyo right now I want to see how much elec my condenser will help me save.... I will use my spare Gisseman perhaps in the future...... :P 2nd tank perhaps? Ketchup is trying to poison me.. but I don't think we will do it la..

@digibee I will PM :)

Cheers, ;)

On really warm days like today ( though raining, the weather is nutty and so #$#$ hot), I realise it takes an extra 10 mins or so to chill down from 27 to 26 so it takes about 25 mins to 30 mins but the whole system temperature sometimes goes down to 25.8 degrees since the water in the sump is allot colder than the water in the display tank.

The time it takes for the temp to go up back to 27 is about 1.5 hours or so with full daylight on. ( I'm using LED).

Anyway some pics taken using Iphone 4 cause stuck at home next 2 weeks so boredom has set in :
