i have never heard of live cockles either for tangs ;) well .. you'd never know..whistling.gif

anyway, now the tangs itch seem to have gone away but I know it's in the system all the time..... seems that feeding with Vit C supplements and tons of food seems to work! :P anyway, the UV is now on 24/7.. hopefully kill SOME Of the bad bacteria...

You are right Desi, I believe it's almost impossible for one to declare an ich free reef tank. Ensuring a stress free and healthy diet environment is the only sure way of maintaining good immunity and thus preventing an outbreak. As i have mentioned to you before, get accustomed to the fact that ich will always be there to trike when given an opportunity. Be cool and try not get too stress over it :) Sometime, think of what we human world is like and relate to our reef tank, it's pretty much the same.

Treat others the way you wanna be treated...

Take note that your UV wattage must be suitable for your tank size. Also to be effective, you need a lower flow rate through your UV unit especially if you want to kill bacteria in the water column.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

Since most of us don't practice the correct method of quarantine, our tanks are normally not ich free. The fishes just get more resistance to ich. That's why new fishes added into our tank gets ich, coz their resistance is lower.

Most impt is to keep our fishes healthy, fighting fit and in a stress free environment. Like us, when our body condition is strong, we won't succumb to the normal flu bug etc. But if we get stressed at work, don't get enough sleep etc. then more prone to falling sick. Sama sama analogy :)

Ah siang...stuart.gif .. as usual has lots of words of wisdom.. compared to everyone else.. but yes, I am feeding pellets ANd flakes AND frozen food soaked in garlic guard everyday... occasionally Dr Bassler's forte pellets and flakes to boost them up... and now also with Vit C supplements although I did read up that once you start on vit C you can't stop so what the hell.. DOSE la! I don't know whether it was timing or whether dosing it really worked but the itch "seemed" to clear up about 4 days after I started squirting it in on a daily basis..... blushing.gif

Or maybe it could be because I removed the PBRT from the display to the sump.. so fishes don't get too stressed with a non eating fish. Btw, update on him.. Day 18 and I have yet to see a grain of food pass INTO his mouth...shocked.gif

Yeah for THE UV, the flow rate is slow as I connected it to the output pipe of the chilller ( and since now I shifted my chiller OUTSIDE.. the length of pipe leading to the chiller and coming back into my sump is even LONGER and slows down the flow rate even more) and I got the CORALIFE Turbo twist 6X (18W) one meant for 250G tank which i think is just right for my tank size (about 200G). Whether it works or not, I do not know but I guess it just AIDS in killing the bacteria ... hopefully MORE bad ones than good ones but it's a risk I am prepared to take... I just have to remember to turn it off for 24-48 hours everytime I dose my bact! Otherwise throw in, then all DIE.. $$$ fly!excl.gif

lol sounds like me. I used to feed 10+ different kinds of food, just to get my fish feeding...

I've since cut down to nls and Dainichi Marine pellets. btw Desi, the pellet food I was talking about the other day over lunch was Dainichi from RD.

Hey comycus :)

Yeah I have that too.. Dainichi pellets are in my auto feeder (also have some Grotech pellets in there) which drop everyday at 3pm. LOL manual feeding pellets are Ocean Nutrion Form 1 & 2 and Dr Basslers. stuart.gif in the morning before I run off to work and once again AFTER the forzen food ritual at night about 9pm.

Btw, will call you again next time I go Hillview. too bad on sunday we could not admire your tank.. hee hee... I don't regularly go back since no car as my parents would come to me and ketchup instead. :)

Cheers,

Desi.

Desi, if the tigger live pods can help to keep him alive, let me know.

I still have 1 bottle with me.

Hi Desi and Ketchup,

Sorry to hear about the PBRT but how do you know that the fish is not eating at all?

One of my fish doesn't eat when I am in front of the tank...

Oh and another thing..don't mean to scare you... did you check for parasites on or in the fish's mouth?

Yeah.. sometimes the fish is already sick and refuses to eat. But it can't hurt to try.

Does the fish look stressed? Gills and mouth puffing very rapidly?

I have seen nightmarish photos of isopods that latch on inside the mouth of the fish online before...:pinch:

If you think it is in danger of dying anyway, do you want to try and inspect the mouth?

I tot that only happen to large fishes? It is really disgusting when you look at the isopod that latches on the tongue of the big fishes...
