I got a Flame Wrasse as well.. however.. sad to say, I found it decomposing this morning in a rock crevice. Ketchup simply could not get it out so we have no choice but to leave it in there as I can't move the rock either as it's a supporting rock... so here is a pic of it memory... good bye wrasse..

Also got a strawberry crab... Lemon and justin told me how fantastic algae eaters they are.. so i thought WNY NOT

Crossing fingers now for my rhomboid.... The flame wrasse adds on to my list of dead livestock for this tank the past 2 months.. ARUGH. Just sad that such a beautiful fish would die. It was feeding yesterday but it wasn't swimming very well initially and it only began to swim more bravely after a couple of hours along with the rhomboid so I though the initial inertia was due to stress. My only conclusion is that it was already weak when I got it....

Purple tang? don't dare, cos may be very aggresive as we have YT liaoz.. my dream fish is still powder blue... but after my powder brown commit suicide by jumping out i think i also dun dare liaoz...

Wow... i totally love a 3-sided partition tank. Tough challenge to do a decent rockscape, not to mention coral placements. I'm envy that both of you are into the same hobby. My wife totally doesnt support my hobby. The only reason why i still have the tank is becoz my 1yr old loves watching fish in the tank. Seems like you've got quite a lot of LPS alraedy... some doesn't seemed to be expanding fully... do monitor the parameters. Really wish i can set up a 4 or 5 footer.

Thanks for the compliment, but frankly, i think my placement needs some improvement. As you can see, i made a mistake of not giving them enuff space to 'grow'. Btw, if both you and Ketchup pull 'resources' together, it's only a matter of time before you get half the tank filled with rics. (chiong shipment, or even buy an entire box??)

Err... Justin my man... do you know that by saying this, a lot of people are offended. (me included).

I'm never the king of rics, and i'm certainly not working towards that. I'm buying them lately, coz i realised that they put some vibrant and bright colours into the tank. Furthermore they are easy and propogate fast... So why not?

FYI: desi & Ketchup do have some really nice rics.. if i may suggest, try to find some 'bright orange' ones... those are the ones that will stand out in the tank. the recent iwarna's are considered not very bright. The greens are pretty decent though.

Agree with Wilson on this. Get some bright orange, pink and yellow rics and you will have a very nice ric rock already. There are some very luminous green and blue rics brought in by the LFSes in every shipment also.

sometimes it's pretty hard to hantam the RIC colors under sunlight but i guess after awhile, we'd be able to tell through experience and some blind luck.. but I think for me it will be more blind luck!! HAHAHA

Water parameters are AOK, I do testing once a week at the moment. THe only thing which is shooting through the roof cause of our daily feedings is nitrates. It's hitting about 25-40ppm right now from the beginning of about 10ppm. I like FAT & HAPPY FISH LA!!

Anyway, spent allot liow on fishy this month.. must stop for a while.. ( if we can tah han)... unless see something which is GIAN-worthy! LOL.

To get nice rics, u need to get there when the shipment is unpacked otherwise you will be left with the scraps...

For that reason, for the next 2 months, I will not be getting any new rics...

Hi all, here's a quick review after feeding my fishes with the new product I bought : Instant Ocean @ Serangoon North CC fish exhibition over the weekend.

Here's what I got. They do not need refrigeration so I store them in the same cupboard with all the rest of my dry goods.

I had fed them some of the marine blend. One sachet = one serving ( about SGD1 per sachet) but because I had already fed other food, I only squeezed out half to feed them.

it looks quite disgusting but its gel based so you can either squeeze it out directly into the water or what I did was put it into a small bowl , mush it with the water and throw in bit by bit into the tank.

THe fishes all cheonged for it ...

After awhile, I thought I"d give the Grazing block a try. Each packet comes with 3 blocks and after peeling the foil, it looks like this

According to the instructions, it says : "place food on top of tank decorations for natural feeding behaviour".

HOwever this is where I found problems with this food. after I found what I thought what was a suitable place to SKEWER the Gel block to.. cause there wasn't any suitable area where I could place it or sandwich it in.... this is how it looks like :-

The round thingy which the yellow wrasse and rhomboid is attacking is the food. At first things looked ok... but problems set in when the more they peck it, the more it began to disintegrate. And worse, when the blue tang and yellow tang attacked it, big chunks ended up breaking up and landing on the sand and the whole thing got dislodged and started to tumble with the blue tang still pecking at it!

I am aware that this amount is meant to be put in the tank for the whole day but i realise that without a proper holder, the food will end up falling on the sand in chunks and will get wasted. So perhaps what we'd have to look out for is some of those fake plastic corals which form like a "cup" to hold the gel like food so that it doesn't fall off. However with big fish like the tangs attacking it... It would probably get ripped to shreds in no TIME... so it kinda defeats the purpose of being a source of food for the entire day...

Maybe other reefers who try this food can give feedback but this is my first time trying out the grazing block and I feel that at the end of the day.. unless I can get a proper holder, i'd have to cut it up into probably quarters and feed it to the fish after mushing it up in a seperate bowl. It is therefore no different from the single gel packs.

The grazing blocks are also not cheap being about SGD4-5 per block ( 1 packet has 3 blocks) .. and that's AFTER a 10% (?? can't remember) discount at the fair.. if my memory serves me right!

Perhaps in the future when I think or find out better ways to use the grazing block, for the moment, I think the single gel packs are more worth the money.

I think i'd have to DIY using egg crate or those wire mesh to make a tray to hold the grazing block. LOL I"d try it out when I have the time to make one. for now I will save the grazing blocks.. or hhmm.. just got an idea when u talk about trays.. maybe... I get those small kitchen seaves and put it in it. HHMM!!!!

What about those small plastic trays you can get at Japan home or Daiso and then use your magnet cleaner to hold it in place in your tank and place the grazing block in it? Not sure if it would work though...
