shocking NO3

Just bought NO2 and NO3 test kit.

Tested all parameter , and shocked to find :

Phospate = 0

NO2 = 0

NO3 = 120 ppm ????!!!!!

No wonder my mushy all blooming .

Should I leave it alone , since it's at the last cycle or change water ??

cycling done, end up with alot of NO3. do a final large water change to bring it down.

Nitrification - Ammonia and Nitrite are consumed by aerobic bacteria, however the end product is Nitrate

Denitrification - Nitrate are consumed by anaerobic bacteria and the end product is Nitrogen

seems like u did not complete your cycling process else you dont have to panic even if your no3 is 1000 as you got nothing for it to kill.

my tank has been with me since begining 2009 ( Jan ).

My backside itchy bought 3 sun coral and was so excited to see them open after I feed them. In the mist of excitment, I feed them twice a day , for almost 2 weeks !!

Leason learnt, feed but in moderation .... with longer intervals

It's okay to feed 2x a day..... just make sure you also change water at the same frequency. LOL

What a doting father.....

I used to have suncoral and I will remove them and put in the bowl, with the some tank water of course, and will feed them with mysis, pallets etc. Once they burp, then I put them in the tank. That way, my main tank water nitrate level will not increase.

lol I couldn't agree more.

The problem I had with sun coral is they don't like strong lighting.

Which means they have to be located low in the the tank or in nooks and crannies where they are much more troublesome to target feed.

So I ended up just targetting in their approximate direction and launching food sprays.

My nitrate levels didn't spike tremendously, but I did only target feed them once every 3 - 4 days, the rest of the days just floating food towards them with the wavemaker.

Beautiful coral, but it was just way too much work for me.
