Hi guys, I am new here. May I know what is the ideal water temperature for a marine fish tank?

what are you keeping? Just fishes?

Just fish only. No corals. What would be the ideal water temperature?

For general fishes, I think 28 will do.

Ideal might be 26 - 27 not sure.

if for fish only, keeping it below 30 should be fine. However, there will be exception for certain livestocks. Do read up more and understand their requirement before buying.

Tank : 4 X 2 X 2 with low iron front panel and external overflow

Skimmer : BK SM200 with waste collector

Return Pumps : Red Dragon 6m3 and Ehiem 1262

FR : 2 X Deltec 509 & powered by AB2000

Nitrate Filter : Deltec NF 509 and tee off from AB2000

Calcium R'tor : Deltec PF 501 with RM secondary chamber

Kalkwasser R'tor : Deltec KM500

Chiller : Pansonic 1 HP Compressor with 20m titanium Coil

Wave Makers : 4 X Tunze 6055 with 7096 & Vortec MP40w

Controller : GHL Profilux

Lighting : ATI Powermodule 10 or 8 tubes

Water Top-up : Water Top-Up tank powered by Tunze Osmolator

External Monitor : American Pinpoint pH and Temp. Monitor for main tank and GHL Profilux Controller to measure temp, pH, Redox

Ozonizer : Sander C50

UV : Corallife 6x

Algae Scrubbler

guys, sorry to ask as i am newbie here as well.. how bout i keep fish but a few coral only.. like anemoni

As long as you are keeping corals you should maintain between 24 - 28 degrees C

certain deep sea anemones would require around 24 if i am not wrong..

Depends on what type of fishes and corals you are keeping. Deep sea fishes you will need 24 degC and below. Same for certain deep sea corals that require lower temperatures. But if you are keeping fishes and corals from the Indo Pacific area, then a temperature of ard 28 deg is sufficient.

26-28 would be sufficient...

unless you intend to keep deep water/rare fishes/corals which are not that common in the market..

and i doubt you're gonna invest so heavily in these LS specially if you're just starting..

so IMO, 26-28..

most of the LS out there do well within that range... :peace:

Hi, I have a small marine fish tank. Is adding ice cubes occasionally instead of installing a chiller bad for the fishes and corals in my tank ? They're ok so far.

Hi bro, welcome to the forum. Adding ice cube is a very bad idea. When the ice cubes melt, it will decrease the salinity of the water. Even if you freeze salt water to match the salinity, are you going to be around every hour to maintain the temperature? I tried to work around this when I first started my nano tank by using ice packs, end up it does more harm than good, I gave up and bought a chiller.

Edit 1: I know it is bad form to complain about a downvote... but really? I get bad karma for helping a bro out when nobody else answered?

Edit 2: So Raydiative is the culprit! LOL... The price I pay for teasing him all the time, real karma lol.

arghhh!!! Bino.. i accidentally downgrade you... was suppose to give you a plus one.. paiseh.. =P

JCKL.. What Bino mention is right.. when the ice cubes melt the salinity will decrease.. also, i suppose your ice cubes comes straight from your tap? if so, it will add alot of other minerals in as well such as chlorine...

i would encourage you to at least get a fan.. the troublesome thing is the fast evaporation of water which will increase your salinity..

a chiller would be the best bet..

fishes can do below 30, but there are many fishes that cannot tolerate high temperature.

in fact, most fishes need at least 27 to 28 to stay comfortable. Most cooler water fishes are uncommon and do no garner interest to average hobbyist because of the price and scarcity, so generally it is safe to say that keeping tempt at 27-28 is ideal.
