yes,like most algae,they utilized both nitrate,phosphate and light as food.Advantage above all other algae,cos they don't go asexual.

Herbivore fishes doesn't seem to like them. I've not seen any fishes eating Chaeto.

I use Chaeto and Rowaphos for my tank and I have no unwanted algae at all.
