Hi Bro/Sis

I'm new in marine hobby, I have keep one 3'x3' refugium tank arround 3 months ago for my marine hobby start. In this tank I had kept two type of macro algae: chaetos and seagrape to remove the nitrate and phosphate. In this 3 months all the macro algae are growing fast under the sun. This night when I off the wave maker and on the T5 light to feed the coral, after 10 mins I saw the water has turn cloudy green. Then I realize there are some cloudy substance coming out from the seagrape torn like figures.

This problem is due to the weather changers or other reason? Will it effect the water quality, and most of all will it harm living creatures?

I hope I will get some information from guru here.

Thanks Tham

PS: Sorry for my poor english :paiseh: :paiseh:

Your macro algae should be going asexual; it is adviseable to remove the dying portions as soon as possible and to place GAC to adsorb whatever nutrients it is releasing back into your water.

In order to prevent them going asexual, you can either do frequent trimming or to have them lighted for 24hrs.

sorry would like to ask some more hmm how to we actually do trimming for the algae??

also we cant possibility on the light for 24 hrs if there are other algae inside the tank such as chaeto right?

does maiden hair algae need trimming also?

thanks bros

Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

For seagrape, when the colour change to dark green or some part turn to white... I think is a right time to trim. <_< <_<
