SRC Member reefer guy Posted December 12, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2003 IMO, depends... like as for me, i work during the day and the only time i can appreciate my tank is at night... so my photoperiod is from 7am to 9am, then 6pm til 1am..... rest of the day its off.... think its the number of hours that's much more critical than the time of the day.. correct me if im wrong... terryansimon
photoperiod = time when lights are on.
SRC Member blacknails Posted December 12, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2003 I think photoperiod is the time he on the lights... Erm.. I'm not sure on whether it is a must to off the lights but I think it's often better to just follow nature and give the corals a break at night. Besides, the scavengers can come out at night to finish off any uneaten food that might cause water problems as well... Oh yah... your fishes also need to sleep at night and I think they'd rather sleep with the lights off, man... And lastly... Save Electricity mah... Hehe... Can't think of anything else at the moment but many wonderous things do happen in your aquarium at night... (Like Skunk Shrimps prefer to lay eggs at night).. So I would advise that you give your LS a living space that imitates that of nature as best as you can.... Just my 2 cents worth...

SRC Member Tanggy Posted December 12, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2003 I set my antinic blue to switch on from 3pm to 3am 12hrs, My MH from 5pm to 1am(8hrs), Dont think its a good ideal to switch on all the time. but if you do not have strong light, have to switch on longer. bwilly
quantity does not mean quality.. corals need quality n some quantity.. if not ppl using PL can switch onz 24/7, then can keep clams n such liao..?
SRC Member reefer guy Posted December 12, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted December 12, 2003 what is photoperiod? bro, photoperiod is the period of time when i switch my lights on.... i had alot of queries about photoperiod as well, whether it be better during day time or nite time... the answer i got was its not about the time of the day, its about giving ur ls enough lighting... also, about giving corals a break, acclimatize them properly... dont tell me if u go to US u would be sleeping all day and wake up at nite to work cheers bro!
