sigh. flame scallop.... please don't buy them anymore and research before buying. the chances for survival for this poor little guy is next to none. they require heavy feeding of phytoplankton and other fine suspension food. one of the toughest filter feeders to feed that inevitably starve to death.

much less in a tank so new, chances are even slimmer. please research on your next purchase :peace:

very glad to hear that!. sorry if i jump the gun. just get quite annoyed when i see these kind of livestock being kept. they belong in the ocean, and not in our tanks. :)

chances are very slim. most die of starvation over many many months. sometimes, reefers who keep them are tricked into a false sense of accomplishment when their scallops are not dead after many months. such animals can take over 12 months to slowly starve to death, where food is enough to only keep them alive, but still insufficient for long term sustenance.

in order to keep these beautiful scallops alive, one must have a deep sand bed and a fuge that generates alot of planktonic and fine suspension of food for them to consume. this is also not very sufficient, and regular feeding of phytoplankton and other similar plankton-kind of foods. success will be awarded only if you are super hardworking and have the correct conditions for it to survive. even in the hands of the most experienced reefers, they still wither away after awhile. certainly not easy.

not just any planktonic suspension food is suitable for them too. it has to be of the correct size for them to consume.

You can keep it at the most 3-6 months in captivity. And they require target feedings of phytoplankton.
