Not so sure if their blue spectrum spec is average or peak. From the pix, its very bluish. Royal blue with average spectrum at 450nm is much purplish.

The other concern imo, is the overdriving. If we need to replace the LED very 30months, the benefits from using LED technology is cut by half.

The next major advantage is heat. Now, I'm not going to say that these LEDs don't produce heat, as they do, and quite a lot of it. But what makes this different is where the heat is radiated from. Usually in most lights, heat is emmited from the bulb itself in the form of infrared light. LEDs do not emmit infrared from the emmiter and will not directly transfer heat into the tank like a metal halide bulb would. The heat that is generated comes off the back side of the LED. Usually, they are mounted to heatsinks to effectively control the heat, and radiate it into the air. Without additional heat placed into the tank, there is now less of a need for chillers and additional fans to cool the tank, saving you money.

70% lumen maintenance is typically acceptable within 20,000 hours of use, for general lighting, 80% for more stringent requirements. Hi-LEDs are at around 3-5% lumens maintenance drop every ~5,000 hours of use. it would also depend on the ambient and lighted temperature conditions in the system, of course higher temperatures will degrade this performance further. -- just quote from my BF :eyebrow:

poomoon ,like to know where above data come from.It is very far from most major led manufacturer spec.Below is what most led light supplier support

LEDs can also save you money long term by elliminating bulb replacement. Most high power LEDs are rated to live for 50,000 hours before the light output drops to about 70% of the original rating. (I do not know why you say 20,000 hrs?)Thats a long time. With a light schedule of 10 hours a day, these LEDs could effectively last for over 13 years! The price you pay upfront is going to be more, but it could pay for itself within the first few years of ownership

For more info refer to major led manufacturer claim and warranty or goto

If above claim (By most led manufacturers) is truth then spending 3 times the price for a good same output LED unit(AI) is far more cheaper.

This is my 2 ct opinion.

If you spend S$600 in 2 years then over 13 years you will spend S$(600 X 13/2) or S$3900. :eyebrow:

Wrong lah.

i think their 3W LED is only at 160 lm per LED, not per W :)

If that is the case then the white 3 w itself is also a poor performance as compare

to most major LEDs on market today

awaiting manufacturer reply... I guess such a new product needs more info before customers can commit.

Actually the local support group can just break the circuit and connect an amp meter to measure the running

current when the unit is on or running.

lumenaqua is only 1 W??

I saw the 2 watt proto type at aquarama 2009 but not on display.

Still waiting for the launching of the 3 watt unit

I am not concern about the overdriving.

No one will do that.

Overdriving an led reduce its life greatly.

I am more concern about claim.

As there is no led spec.

We do not know at what ampere we need to drive this led before we can get 160 lm.

Please take note the same led will give you less lumen when drive at 350 mA and at 1.4 A

Only through manufacturer spec then we can know if the claim is true

:thanks:

Its ok.Because never see something so low before from most of the leds I had being using to date.

So sori if you feel you are being bombarded.

i dunno the calculation but based on actual par reading, it is equivalent. In fact, when we did the PAR test, Dr eVil and I forgot to remove the tinted green coated plastic film on the light so the LED transmission was at an disadvantage. So this LED lightset should be stronger than my 3 weeks old 150W MH. Bear in mind that I am using a 20 k bulb though.

OK Comycus

I have more confidence since exchanging a couple of emails with the Maxspect folks.

They seem to know what they are doing and response turnaround is on the same day itself.

I am getting the 110W tonight and if you are interested, can always pop over my place tml to take a look.

very keen to see the effect of these lights.

cheers!

Great I will try to make it down tmr... will pop u a sms when I'm free. Evening can?

btw just wondering if at 1.5ft the PAR readings are similar to 150W mh, then is it safe to assume that at 2ft it is also similar? or the light disperses differently?

logically speaking I think LED gives out better brightness uniformity as you have multiple points of light point downwards. MH will poorer PAR away from the central zone.

Maxspect has a PAR reading for various depth and area i think but i dunno know to read them. you can check that out.

Agree! Pretty exciting if we have a good product at v. fair prices!

Btw Jacky do you have a PAR value reader to measure or that was dr evil's?

Of course that is his lah. not mine.

Found a spectrum chart from the chinese forum. Indeed, their blue is in the same range as other brand's royal blue. Average 448nm.

If proven to be as good as it claims, Maxspect will be the next big thing in 2010!

:P

JC

Tsk tsk tsk.... nooby's word carry no weight. Thought i mentioned that their blue is in the 450 nm range.

Sigh.... *sob sob
