hahaha. comycus means that lemon's tank has 100ppm of NO3, but everything is still fine.

bro eniram, to be honest i have been fighting my 100ppm NO3 for months. till i cant even be bothered. guess from my FTS u can't tell the NO3 concentration. however the past few months it has been better. at around 25-50ppm. not much to shout about but great considering it was 100ppm before.

try using AZ-NO3. it helps

bro lemon..

your corals ok with 100ppm that time??

water change of 15-20% every week for 2 months. coupled with AZ-NO3. and changed my skimmer to a delctec APF600. NO3 has been around 25ppm ever since.

they were doing just as well that you would never guess the water was 100ppm NO3. until i did a test 1 fine day. was dam panic at first....but after realising the corals were still fine, i just heck cared until now... quite unusual to see corals surviving in such high concentrations of NO3. but i guess there's a first for everything for me.

Hahaha hmmmm don't know what was i thinking i guess not straight , read your post before and came across the 100ppm of NO3 issue.

I wish i have the time to follow the regime of dosing AZ-NO3 as most of the time i'm not in SIN.

The only way i can do to reduce is to use natural and chemical way and also frequent water change.

I think major reason for my low nitrates so far is dosing bacteria...

Otherwise slowly reduce with azno3 la, miss afew days also nvm one, just dun overdose it to compensate :)

Wow you managed to keep 6 pygmy angels together! I'm intending to keep about 4-5 in my new 2ft cube. Hope i can achieve the same success!

I believe you can too keep 4-5 angels in your 2 footer. You must plan which angels to go in from the first then the last and also how you introduce it into the tank.

i have problem adding angels now

tried

rusty KO by my coral beauty

golden KO after 1 month

still considering whether to add more <_<

Hey dnsfpl

What i do normally is to not introduce straight away i would house them in a mesh housing and only after about 1 mth then i will let it go. If after 1 mth there is still fights i will try to trap the bully and let the harressed one swim freely till also roughly about a mth.

Yea i plan to add 1 to 2 more angels then i will have to stop! care to share how you reduce or keep your NO3 at such low specs?

used to have high no3, app 60ppm

changed my skimmer from reef octopus dnw 200 to deltec ap851

dose vodka, keep chaeto with 24 hours lighting, 100l(25%) water change per month

manage to control the no3 after 3 months

right now i still use deltec ap851 but

vodka dosage cut by half

reduce lighting hours for chaeto to 18 hours

50l water change per month

no3 remains below 10ppm

HTH

cheers

Wa, i think i need to run my chaeto 24hrs too, am running for 10hrs only. Does changing of skimmer really reduce the nitrate that much?

I think i need to talk to "hello kitty" to share water change cost.

How to you do the vodka dosage? i read Melvreef's but not very clear on how to dose vodka. Share more with me on whats your method.

Thx

here is my method but dose at your own risk

1. check NO3

2. day(x) to day(x)+4 DOSE (y)ml

3. check NO3 again after 5 days

- if NO3 remains, increase vodka dosage by 1ml, repeat step 2.

- if NO3 reduce, maintain dosage until NO3 drop below 10ppm, then reduce dosage by half

4. check NO3 monthly, if NO3 increase to 20ppm, repeat step 2.

eg

1. check NO3 - 60ppm

2. day1 to day5 DOSE 1ml

3. check NO3 - 60ppm

Repeat step 2...

2. day6 to day10 DOSE 2ml

3. check NO3 - 60ppm

Repeat step 2...

2. day11 to day15 DOSE 3ml

3. check NO3 - 60ppm

Repeat step 2...

2. day16 to day20 DOSE 4ml

3. check NO3 - 50ppm

Repeat step 2...but keep dosage at 4ml

2. day21 to day25 DOSE 4ml

3. check NO3 - 40ppm

... ... ...

i waited app 3 months, dosed 10ml of vodka before i see slight drop in no3

good luck

as for skimmer, by looking at the skim mate, you can tell the difference

reef octopus is good, but deltec is really another class :eyebrow:

Hey thanks for the vodka tip, so can i say that no matter how high your NO3 is, 1ml is the guide line to start and to increase? per dosage?

Are you keeping any corals? i wonder if mushies will be affected?

Link to comment

you can start with 5ml and add 1ml every 3 days

i more kiasi, slow and steady

it will not affect any corals, 100% reef safe

you might get cyano thou

cheers

Thanks for the tip, will do start the vodka dosing. So for the chaeto to grow successfully lights must be on 24hrs?

for chaeto to grow successfully, you need high nutrients, good lighting and good flow

can i ask something that happened to me?

i've got my strong lights shining on my cheato 24hrs, good moderate flow, but not sure about the nutrients...

one fine day, my cheato started becaming loose and breaking up into loose pieces...

before i know it, it starts to shrink and it wasnt as solid as before..

any reason for that?
