Chromis questions

Recommended Posts

I have four blue green chromis in my 3ft, 3 of them have an electric blue stripe running from the eye to the tip of the face but one of them doesn't have it. The one that doesn't have it has an injury near the caudal peduncle and is sometimes being chased around by the others.

Is there any significance of the chromis having the blue stripe on its face? And aren't chromis supposed to be shoaling fish that won't fight?

:thanks:

4 fish is nowhere near schooling numbers. my 3 chromis used to fight against each other till no end. I suspect the best way to keep their behaviour in check is to put an aggressive fish in. I would just let nature take its course. The injured one may heal in time, or be slowly nipped to death, and then the next weakest fish will get the same treatment. These fish just don't school in our tanks as you might want them to like in nature.

but it seem much different from both of u all my 4ft having 9 most of the it swim in school and for the 3ft also almost the same it may try to buy together that from the same tank

I have read some reefers buy 15, eventually also end up with 1 or a pair in the end. Schooling fishes generally school only when they feel threatened. In a tank environment, you might see them school initially, once they settle down, will start fighting amongst themselves. If no big boss (like a sohal tang or something like tt) to bully them, this behaviour may or may not continue. I don't think has to do with tank size or introduced together.

flamehawk, cardinal, dottyback, maroon clown all capable of bullying your chromis if they are alone. That's prob why they school. Intending to add anymore fishes? Looks like your tank has quite alot of fishes already.
