Super Sun Coral Feeding

Super suns do best with daily feedings or once every 2 days for maximum growth. They receed very quickly if not given enough food, as they are azooxanthellae corals. Which simply means they do not harbour zooxanthellae within their cells to photosynthesize and make food. Thus it is vital for them to receive their nutrition from meaty food captured in the water current. Place them in high flow areas as they like the flow. Low light is best as they do not need it. As mentioned before, feed them daily or once every 2 days is fine.

Suncorals can eat a lot. I really mean a lot. It is not advisable (IMHO) to feed them inside the tank. If you could remove them from the tank and feed them outside and all this while under water, then they will stay in great shape.

Heavy feeding with mysids or cycopeeze twice a week is enough.

Good luck.

I feed my sun coral with cycopeeze twice a week and it looks happy, see photo <img src="http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eyebrow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eyebrow:" border="0" alt="eyebrow.gif" />

I just got another sun coral recently.

They only open at night after my lights are off....

When feed with cyclopeeze, they open which will close back....unlike the suncoral saw at iwarna which opens daily.....

Any suggestion on how to achieve that?

Btw....I feed them daily and may reduce to once every 2 days...

Tank : 3 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup end Feb 2014 ) --> 4 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup early Nov 2016 )
Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC6 --> Bubble Magus Curve 7
Return pump : Jebao 10000l/h ( down in 17th December 2014 ) --> Jebao DC-12000 ( 19th December 2014 )
Compressor drop-in coil
Wavemaker : Tunze 6105 x 1
Lights : Modular based DIY LED light x 4

hi, not sure how much different suns are from supers. but for my supers, i just make sure i don't put them in too much light, so located them near bottom. with that, about 80% of the time during lights on, they are open. also as i've mentioned in my thread, my every 2 days feeding still seemed too much for them as i noticed them throwing up, even just using 1 cube mysis only. so in the end only direct feeding 2x per week (frozen mysis, FM Ultra LP), then indirect with cyclopeze. important is see how they react, polyp/tentacle extensions, and general health. may differ case to case. for my case, they're very healthy with this. cheers !

The trick to getting sun corals open at all hours is to feed them at different timings of each day. Do not just feed when the lights are out or they will make it a habit. If your sun corals are shut during day, Try to 'wake' them by dripping some mysis juice. After 15 mins u will see them extend their tentacles. When thy are ready, target feed them. They will soon realize that food can be available during day time when all your lights are on.

It does take a while for the sun corals to 'learn' though. Be patient and your efforts will definitely be rewarded.

Hi bro....

Thanks for the advice.....

Where can I get mysis juice?

someone help him please. I am lazy to explain. ty.

from my understanding is.. its from the frozen mysis cube...

jus let them 'smell' the 'water/juice' from the melted icy mysis cube.

than once open u can give them the 'meat/mysis'...

i did that for my previous sun.. but no luxurious time for that, and sold it of. :thumbsup:
