hehe start off with reading your manual! :eyebrow:

That's actually quite important... coz when you read photography tips, all these jargon that you learn from the manual will help you. :)

camping too ... agree with comy, and also read some articles online helps. then fire away and practice, nothing to waste anyway.

Yea thanks for ur advise bro:) hehe actually there's a pocket guide which i think will be useful with its small size... :eyebrow: To my expectation picture quality is perfect on the 50D with ISO 3200 is crazy when shooting in broad daylight but quite useful when i'm shooting weddings for cousins or uncles... Here's what it looks like with ISO 3200

Location : Starbucks coffee

Lighting : Incandescent

This pic was taken right after i bought batteries are double A as i've also got the battery grip:D

go for the 50mm, its really a good piece of lens at that price.

50D i would expect it to be not much different from the 40D i used to handle, its a nice camera to work with. the 1.6 crop would work quite well if you are taking macro shots esp in fish tank where lights are plentiful.

another lens you can consider is the 85mm 1.8, though i had yet to try 1 but been hearing nothing but raving reviews about it.

For noobs, you can learn a lot of things from this Canon site.

If you've bought your canon brand new in Singapore, you can go for their 2-hour training session.

The Canon US site has a tips and techniques section with useful articles.

With respect to lenses, I'm not a prime-lens guy... Too lazy to walk to get the correct frame. As I'm not rich and don't want to lug heavy equipment everywhere, I carry a Sigma 18-50 f2.8 as main and 70-300 tele for zoom and macro.

Although good equipment does help in getting good photographs, I believe that the-brain-behind-the-eye-behind-the-camera plays the biggest part. Technology can help you get good focus fast and correct white balance, it will never compose your photo for you. Composition is the photographer's job.

Same as reefing research first before you buy. If you can lend from friends do so to test out the equipment before taking the plunge.

P.S. the kit lenses are usually crap. I still kept mine as last resort back up as it's worth nothing in the re-sale market.

According to the canon lense book, it will deliver sharp clear images starting from f1.8, full time manual focus over write and non rotating front lense... The pricing is $699

According to the canon lense book...

Bro, not doubting your lens book, but I would take any claims from the marketing department with a pinch of salt. :P

A salesman once told me that he heard that XXX brand of socks are so good that there was this triathelete who came back from his swimming segment to find his shoes stolen, so he ran the rest of his marathon wearing just XXX socks. End of the race: no blisters at all!

I asked the salesman where he heard this story from... "Erm... XXX marketing people lor!" :eyebrow:

My 1.5ft nano cube

My 24G nano tank (Decommed)

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate.

And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

question for the pros here.

My 18 - 55 mm kit lens is spoilt (unable to autofocus)

Does it make sense for me to send it for repair (out of warranty already) or should I just ditch it and get a new one.If its the latter, which lens should I get?

v. good and cheap lens to reverse mount and do normal macro :)

What would you use your dslr primarily for? like 80% of the time.
