Whitefish Nano II

Last year, I went to US for a 6 months business trip.

I left my tank in my wife's care and most of my corals did not survive my stint overseas

After I shifted house last month, I decided to start my Nano from scratch again.

Below is a FTS of my Nano BEFORE going overseas.

My tank is JBJ 24G Nanocube but it was still an effort trying to shift the tank with the water and the surviving inhabitants.

I threw away half the water during the move.

After letting the tank stabilize for 1 week, I stocked up few corals.

After a total of 2 trips to GO, my tank was almost full

This time, I have chosen corals that have been able to survive in my previous attempt at marine aquarium.

It was not easy because I do not have a chiller and have to rely on a fan to cool my tank to 28-29 deg C

I have decided not to stick to my old scaping and experiment with a new look.

Do you prefer the old or new look?

I may want to add 1 more fish but have not decided on the species.

It seem that I do not have more space to add more corals.

After putting the new tank together, I was glad that I did not give up this hobby.

I almost decide to sell away the tank to avoid having to move the tank when I shift house.

Any comments and suggestions are welcomed

Reefing is in the blood man. Once a reefer, always a reefer

You can decomm now but I am sure after while, you would want to start another tank.

It is really not easy to scape a nano cube. Your new rock work looks more nicer.

SOmehow I think if you do so minor adjustment, you should be able to put in more corals.

another 24G! glad that you did not give up... anyway your rocks are still nicely covered with coraline and the scaping looks good...

in order to have more corals in your tank, you've got to buy the smallest sizes corals available... thats the difficult part of having a nano...

The most difficult part of having a nano is trying to make it to look nice while keeping it simple.

Trying to maintain the system without skimmer and chiller can be tough.

I felt that if I used those, the whole system will look cluttered and somewhat defeats the purpose of keeping a Nano

It can takes a lot of discipline to choose the correct livestock and do the weekly water changes.

For some hardy fish and softies I think ok.

More limitations to the choice of livestock only.

i did managed to have a skimmer as well as a chiller for the tank... and it doesnt affect the appearance at all.. you may like to give the tunze 9002 a try.. fits perfectly to the middle chamber... =]

Went to Coral Farm last week to buy 1 more common clownfish, a chromis and a orange starfish

Somehow, my original clownfish do not seem to like the chromis.

On the 2nd day, I found the Chromis dead at the bottom of the tank

I really like the orange starfish. I hope this one will survive because I do not have much luck on my previous attempt

What is the food for this type of starfish anyway?

I am no expert but so far 28-29 seems ok.

For a period of time in the past, my fan was faulty and the temperature goes to 30-31 for a few weeks.

My corals start to bleach. Thus I know for sure that above 30 deg C will not be suitable for corals.

I will need to see whether Corals will survive 28-29 for long term

Without the fans, it is impossible to keep the temp below 30 Deg C.

The downside of fan is that I need to top up water every day

For my tank, I minimize heat generation by using low wattage equipment.

At one time, by upgrading my stock pump to a powerful EHiEM.

I immediately regret my decision because my tank water temperature went up by 2 deg C

Thus I always looking out for pumps with about 800-1000 gph with as low wattage as possible
