Hi,

I'm cycling a 3ft tank in my office.

Can someone recommend me a budget external skimmer as the tank comes with IOS.

Greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

lol someone selling his mce600 with rsm at a good price. You can see if he is willing to do seperate sales. But price below 100 is definitely not possible for deltec. A quick search on the mce600 and you will know that it is a mid budget skimmer producing good results for its users (Price of getting a new unit should be 500-600+). It is a hang on back skimmer. Don't know if it suits your needs, but basically it's a good investment.

Wish you all the best in your search!

You can actually hang it outside the IOS? Not sure of your IOS dimensions, but if you give them to me I can make a quick measurement to see if it's possible. With your budget, your best bet would be to camp at pasar malam to find a good used skimmer if you're not in a rush. I would prefer to invest abit more in a good skimmer than go with some weipro skimmer or something similar.

Have a Reef Octopus Skimmer but only for in-sump usage.

Can this be modified to external use?

Should be able to modify it as a HOB with your pump in the IOS compartment, just that with the added pipes or hoses your skimmer efficiency will be reduced.

What is HOB  , can u elaborate more on the modification.

:thanks:

HOB = Hang-on-back

If you can twist the inlet that is connected to the pump 180o upwards, connect a pipe or hose and create a inverted U to your IOS. As for your outlet, fit 2 elbows so that it points downwards. How you want to keep the entire skimmer body at the height is up to you. Just make sure its secure and don't end up crashing to the floor!

Btw, what is this small tube facing left for?

post-11221-1256361496_thumb.jpg

Instead of hanging, can it be put on top of the hood with my chiller?

Oh my... that's a lot of equipment on top of your tank! How is it being supported? If everything is depending on your tank, your glass will not be able to withstand the pressure.

As for the skimmer, you have to add hoses or pipes. Do you have a hang-on filter, or at least seen one before? The concept is the same. The tube should be your air in-take.

dude your setup is scary... nice tank! but I see the chiller on top and my heart shudders...

How about creating a small sump at the bottom so you have more space? Or do some plumbing from your IOS to run your water down where you have more space to place equipment?

It's a solid hood resting on the cabinet. Not resting on the tank. All the equipment is not in use except for the chiller.

I can't put a overflow box into the last compartment so cannot have a sump. Worried that if the I do plumbing down from the IOS, the pump fail then I'll be in trouble.
