Any bro can advise how can we make the power supply for PC on

when it is not install in our PC

6.5 * 2 * 2 + 3.75 * 1.5 *1.5,(Decomn on 14/9/08)
4*2*2 + 2.5*1.25*1.25 (Decomn on 1/8/09)
5*2*2 (Fully LED light system, 140 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm)
2.5*2*2(Fully LED Light System,96 3 watt SSC leds with 60 degree lens)(Decomm)

5*2.5*2(LED only)

Eheim return 1 * pump

1 HP Daikin compressor with cooling coil
2 Jebao OW40, 1 ecotech MP40,
1X6085 Tunze wm,

1 CURVE 7 Skimmer

  1 DIY 80 led control by Bluefish mini 

1 radion XR30W G2, 2 Radion XR15G3

Sump area lite by 5 ft T5 , 6 * SSC 3 watt red LED for refugium

1 Full spectrum E27 led light

1 CR control by bubble count

Start No Water Change since 1st Dec 2016

Add new 2.5x2x 1.5 ft

So I like to share this with all bros/sis

Here is what need to be done.

To on your Computer Power supply unit when it is not install on

your computer you

1. On the the ac power

2. Find the biggest molex connector

3. Short the green wire to the adjacent black wire.

4. Put a load like a PC fan to one of the connector

5. On the ac power.

6. The fan will start to rotate.

4*2*2 + 2.5*1.25*1.25 (Decomn on 1/8/09)

I dun think you are using PC Power supply just to run a fan :rolleyes: !

Please tell us what is your plan behind :evil: !

For the benefit of those DIYers who do not know how to make a PC power supply unit run when it is not connected in the computer.

To make a PC supply unit run as stand alone

Find this biggest molex

Short the green and alternate black cable

I cut the green,black ,yellow and red cables and connect them to a terminal block

for easier access

Black is common

Red is 5V

Yellow is 12 v

Hi Sherman,

Glad it's working for you; just to check with you, what are your power requirements ?

Can anyone share what are the common DC accessories & power requirement that you are running ? i.e Fans, LEDs, etc ?

I'm currently running 2 x 12V (0.15A) DC brushless fans and 2 x 12V(1A) LED strips currently.

This is a 5v and 12 v DC power supply setup using PC power supply.

For the chiller project I need 12 vdc.

The cheapest DC power supply today is the PC power supply.

Most fan running 12 or 5 vdc.

SimLim tower, bottom floor has a shop that sells tons of PS that are better than a bulky computer PS. also you can adjust the current easily.

I bought a couple for my DIY top-up boxes, cost about S$6.00, or better yet like the other reefer said use a 12vdc PS from a HP.
