Hi, anyone has used the Crystal pro single stage filter system before?

How long can the resin last?

Mine seems like can only last for a month then the TDS reading shoot up to 100 plus....

me too!!!!! mine shot up to 80++

shall purchase a refill and try again..

could be my flowrate too fast,

"damage" the resin....

will try again, hopefully can last longer...

Erm...this is what i initially thought of ...might be the flowrate too fast and shorten the lifespan.....so i follow the recommended flow rate or even running at a slower rate for my 2nd pcs of resin ...yet it is still the same....just did the measurement again...it shoot up the 400 plus/...wondering is it becoz there is some particles inside the container which cause the TDS meter to show such a high reading....coz the normal tap water reading is only around 160....

Actually flow rate fast or not should not shorten or lenghten the lifespan for DI filters. There is a max volume that DI filters are rated for and after that max volume is reached, it will be exhausted. A slow flow rate will enable you to get a 0 TDS reading while a faster flow rate may get you a higher TDS reading but it should not be higher than your tap water reading.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

so a 3stage would last longer???

how long will the 3stage filter last before having to replace the filter?

if i just left the resin without using it,

will it also wear off over time?

wont right? should be going by max volume that it can take, like what u mentioned?

I have started the 3 stage about 1.5 months ago and I change water around twice a week, about a red pile. I dun control the flowrate and just turn to max. My tape water output is around 40+ and after filter, it drop to less than 1 or 0.

Maybe you discard let the water in the container if left for long time and remeasure again...???

TDS cannot be more than 400. May be your TDS meter haywire.

Our tap water isbout 40-70 TDS only.

I use crystal pro for very long time already, but normally change the resin every 4 to 6 months. I use the longer life type, which a bit ex.

When my water start to smell abit funny, my TDS is around 20, so time to change the resin and carbon.

yours single stage or 3 stage?

so LFS will have both the longer life type and the normal ones?

shall consider investing in the longer life one then in my next purchase...

so the main cause of it wearing out is definately not flow rate?

My is 1x Carbon and 2x resin.. 3 stages.

Yes, the resin come with low and higher grade.. if I am not wrong, the higher grade one cost around $30 per resin..

Where you stay bro.. you can borrow my TDS meter..

My TDS can go higher than 400 when measure direct on the Mix Salt water.. Hmm ???

My information from a LFS that also sells the Crystal Pro is that the single stage DI unit lasts around 600L only. So the three stage which has 2 DI resins should last 1,200L.

If you leave the resin without using it, then nothing will happen to it.

There is a type of colour changing DI resin that is available. If you use it, then u will know it is time to change the resin when the colour changes.

Mine is the pro or the 3 stage one.

If flow rates too fast, the resin/carbon will be not fast enough to absorb the impurities.

Not too sure if crystal pro also have the colour changing resin.

I also heard from the LFS that the single stage filter shd last for abt 3 months...but mine only can last for around 1 month....i think the consumption less than 80L coz only change the water twice....

used the TDS meter that come wif crystal pro to measure, maybe the TDS meter not accurate?

Hi bro, I'm thinking of getting the 3 stage crystal pro. You mentioned every 4-6 mths the resins need to be changed. May i know how many litres does that convert to? You change single or 2 resins? How about the carbon filter? did you change it as well?

Soory for the multiple questions. Need to do some maths to see if it's worth to get it.

For the Crystal Pro 3 stage, first stage is carbon followed by 2 stage DI. How it works is that in the first stage, the carbon filter will absord some of the impurities in the water before it is passed to the two DI stages. This is done so that the life span of the DI filters will be increased. In the two stage DI, what happens is that the first DI filter will be used up followed by the 2nd stage DI. When the second stage DI has been used up, then you will need to change all 3 filters.

I believe the 3 stage Crystal Pro will last around 1,000L+ before you need to replace all the filters. Just take note that flow rate will be very low if you are aiming for 0 TDS reading.

I don't believe can last 3 months. It all depends on your usage and the degree of impurities in your tap water.

Do take note that you there is capacity limit per day that the resin can take. To play safe, 1 bucket per day is ok.

I fill up 1.5 bucket per week for my weekly water change and top up and my tap water TDS is about 50-60. So can last quite long.

For the carbon, depends on the TDS. If the I change the new resin but TDS is hovering around 5-10, then I'll change the carbon. I think the carbon can last longer than resin.

wow.. didnt know there is a cap of volume per day... will take note..

the day my readings changed was the day i was filling up my new tank with water...

used around 10pails...

after the 3rd pail, the reading shot up...

yup...i dun think it can last for 3 months...mine can last for one month only...used less than 80L of water....my tap water reading is about 150...maybe that's y the resin life span is shorter...

but the funny thing is i just measure the filtered water reading..it reads 300!..weird..wonder why the TDS increase...???

just changed my resin, TDS read zero now..so i confirm that the TDS meter is not spoilt....but then what cause the TDS meter to read 300?..

Probably the DI resin leeching back to the filtered water? Otherwise no reason why the filtered water should have a higher TDS than the unfiltered tap water.

I don't think the resin can take so many liters per day. If need to fill up new tank, try to buy lots of distilled water. Or you still can use the tap water but mix with the chemical purifier or something to remove the chlorine. You need to cycle the tank for a month, anyway.

To me, the DI filter system is good for topping up water or for water change only.
