Senior Reefer yikai Posted October 7, 2009 Senior Reefer Share Posted October 7, 2009 Anyone here know what are the spawning behaviours of damelfishes? Have a pair of Pomacentrus Alleni. 1 is bigger than the other. 1 of them is super neon metallic blue, while the other is a duller deep blue. Both swim together everyday. recently, the bigger one with the brighter colouration has taken a liking to a patch of sand underneath my favia. Its like a little cave, between 2 rocks and the favia on top as a roof. There is a brightly lit clearing of sand next to it. have seen him using his body to wiggle and clear off the sand to form a depression in the sand bed. Is he like, making a little love nest or something?
FuEl
Sounds like it, only way to confirm is to check for eggs. Quote Always something more important than fish. http://reefbuilders.com/2012/03/08/sps-pico-reef/
SRC Member peacemaker Posted October 7, 2009 SRC Member Share Posted October 7, 2009 I thought that is a common behavior among damsels, as in using their tails to create a small bare bottom patch? The damsel I've kept long time ago did the same, and it was the only damsel in the tank.

SRC Member peacemaker Posted October 7, 2009 SRC Member Share Posted October 7, 2009 i've had some damsels before but never seen them behave this way I was actually quite pissed with it as it messed up my sand bed and covered my corals with sand. Yours might just be a different case though. It'll be interesting to see them spawn. Keep us posted!
