ya.. thats something i am thinking about also... maybe will try the brine shrimp hatchery that we bought also... but that one need some monitoring... i guess can feed once and breed 2nd batch for release when we gone for short holidays...

i read that the just hatch brine shrimps are more nutritious... those adults are basically no nutrition value unless gut filled with planktons i think..

Where did you buy the brine shrimp hatchery?

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

some snails do feed on dead fishes and you will be surprised how fast this can be done.

I don't think it could have ended up in your sump unless the return pipes u are using is that large. Cleaner shrimps will feed on dead fishes. Snails most likely won't. Well, if you have cleaner shrimps, hermit crabs and star fishes, then it is possible that the body is eaten in a couple of days.

Anyway, next time you may want to use an auto feeder to feed your fishes. This is what I do now. So when I'm not around, at least I know my fishes are being fed daily.

Tank : 4 X 2 X 2 with low iron front panel and external overflow

Skimmer : BK SM200 with waste collector

Return Pumps : Red Dragon 6m3 and Ehiem 1262

Nitrate Filter : Deltec NF 509 and tee off from AB2000

Calcium R'tor : Deltec PF 501 with RM secondary chamber

Kalkwasser R'tor : Deltec KM500

Chiller : Pansonic 1 HP Compressor with 20m titanium Coil

Wave Makers : 4 X Tunze 6055 with 7096 & Vortec MP40w

Controller : GHL Profilux

Lighting : ATI Powermodule 10 or 8 tubes

Water Top-up : Water Top-Up tank powered by Tunze Osmolator

External Monitor : American Pinpoint pH and Temp. Monitor for main tank and GHL Profilux Controller to measure temp, pH, Redox

those are the troublesome ones... can only suggest you get your family members to help you to feed or dump live copepods into your tank.

they can feast on it for a few days.

One solution I can think of is to put live rocks in your sump and dose a lot of live copepods there and let them populate in your sump. When u go overseas, catch out your mandarins and seahorse and put them in the sump. They should be able to feed on the copepods.

good idea!!

never thought of that..

i guess the next time when i'm away,

i shall do that..

the problem is everytime i go on a holiday,

most of the time it would be with my family,

that would leave nobody at home to take care of the tank..

i've heard of that...

i'm just shocked that i cant even find any trace of its body

come to think of it, kinda gross that these snails could feed on the entire fish..

who knows,

there could be a monster bristtle worm hidden somewhere in my rocks..

Think on the bright side, at least yr dead fish not left to rot and pollute the water. Bristle worm is better than bobby worm(hope I got the name right)

is it easy hatching brine shrimps?

i've never tried before..

Depends on the brine shrimp eggs, salinity of the nsw and also the temperature. Most people on RC say that they sometimes get less than 50% successful hatching rate.

For live bbs, you can actually buy them at C328.

from what i know, low flow and put below the tank. if you want to put upward, slowly acclimate from below to middle then upward of the tank. ^_^

So now, show us what you got today

Rics are easy to keep. Basically medium to high lights required, low flow. Temperature less than 29 degC. Can try to feed them mysis or brine shrimps but actually not required.

Seems like you had lots of fun.... nice

Rics are very easy to keep.

imo , easier than yuma.

the bros are mentioned already... just one more point to add, make sure the the current is not too strong at them. As long as the polyps is not force the "flip" up, it is ok.

Eqpt: Deltec MCE 600, Tunze 6055 with Tunze 7091 controller, Artica 1/15 HP chiller, AquaIllumination Sol Blue LED Light System

Rics and Yumas are basically easy to keep. Just that Rics require more light than Yumas.

another question, do rics grow as fast as mushrooms?

yes, based on my experience, but depends on individual rics... i had some that propogate within 1 week, some 2 months still the same (big big size u know... but never split).

However, u can try to 'slice' them up. I heard it's possible.

This shipment is quite exquisite. The 2 pieces you got are really good! Very lucky for 1st time ric collector!

Btw: still not too late to chiong for tomorrow morning. I'm sure the orange will still be there!
