very nice tank! Love the huge empty sand bed... i used to have a big empty sand bed too.. now over taken by corals already.. hahaha...

however i believe you can still do better on the scaping.. just my 2 cents.. no mean intentions!

agree with you that the scaping doesnt look that natural...

shall try to rearrange each time i get some corals to add on...

big sandbed taken over by corals is good...

my bank still not fat enough to fill my sandbed :paiseh:

post-16223-1265780957_thumb.jpg

got this beauty at ML..

one greedy fish feeding on henry's food and frozen mysis..

went crazy when henry was feeding his tank of copperbands,

so i grabbed it...

i paid about 5times more than the market price,

but no regrets so far..

kept it in the betta box for about 2weeks to ensure that its feeding well,

released it last night...

now have to monitor it..

hope it doesnt eye my zoas.. (i've got not many to begin with anyway.. haha)

just realise i've got 2 time bombs in my tank..

FA and this copperband..

hope they stay guai.. and remain guai....

i'll ensure that they eat everyday,

so they will think twice about tasting my corals :P

pair of true percs in my betta box..

not sure when should i release them..

both already feeding well..

just the small one a little skinny..

i wonder if i release them,

will they be paired?

any signs from the betta box that i can look out for that they're paired??

i've not seen them fight for the past few days,

so i guess is everything ok?

very very sad :cry2::cry2::cry2:

the only missing fish from my tank..

body couldnt be found..

but i cant understand how it would die (if it died)

i've fed all my fishes 3times a day about 3 days before i left...

everyone including the copperband were feeding well...

but for now i could only guess that it died of hunger..

such a small and beautiful healthy feeding fish,

i felt sad that it died..

now maybe i should have gotten it only after my one week trip...

its really sad..

till now, no sight of it..

worse thing is,

cant find the body..

not even a fin :cry2:

A bit wierd because fishes can go without food for more than a week. Body not found could be because your other fishes and shrimps etc could have eaten it or it could already have decomposed.

My Setup:

3x2x2 tank with IOS

Equipment List:

Chiller: Artica 1/5HP

Chiller Pump: Sicce 4000

Return Pump: OR3500

Skimmer: Deltec APF600

Wavemaker: Tunze Wavebox/2x Hydor K2/SCWD wavemaker

Lights: DElighting 2x150W MH + 2x 39W T5 Atinic

FR: Skimz

FR Pump: Atman AT-104

Tubby ATO, Kalkweisser Reactor with magnetic stirrer.

Sorry to hear of your loss bro.

sorry for your loss kiko.... strange though how the body dissappear... could it be in sump or external overflow?

thanks..

just find it such a waste...

ya.. thats the very strange thing,

i cant find the body...

checked overflow and sump,

not found anywhere...

its wierd...

could it be possible that my cleaner shrimp and snails be feasting on its body after it died?

not possible right?

cant even find any body parts of it anywhere..

unless its stuck somewhere in the LR..

shall search again

copperband butterflies are active fishes, constantly looking for food. important thing to note is their highly compressed bodies. this means that they have very little fat reserves and starve very easily, as compared to other fishes. also, copperbands are light feeders, prefering to feed a little at every feeding time, but throughout the day. in the wild they are constantly on the prowl for benthic invertibrates.

1 week without feeding can unsurprisingly lead to the demise of such a beautiful fish. and all it takes is a few days for a dead fish to completely disintegrate too. so no suprises here. copperbands rarely or do not jump out of a tank, so my guess is, it could have died and decomposed thoroughly while you were away.

it is VERY possible for cleaner shrimps and nassarius snails to feast on the dead body. in fact, that is what they do. they 100% will feast on the dead body, furthur speeding up the decomp. process.

I don't think it could have ended up in your sump unless the return pipes u are using is that large. Cleaner shrimps will feed on dead fishes. Snails most likely won't. Well, if you have cleaner shrimps, hermit crabs and star fishes, then it is possible that the body is eaten in a couple of days.

Anyway, next time you may want to use an auto feeder to feed your fishes. This is what I do now. So when I'm not around, at least I know my fishes are being fed daily.

still cant get over the fact that my copperband is gone..

oh well, life still has to go on...

invested in an auto feeder...

this would solve my problem to feed my fishes whenever i'm away..

however,

fishes like my mandrain, seahorse, and maybe my future copperband rely on frozen mysis..

hmm... cant place mysis into my auto feeder right,

it'll stink over the days and i dont think it'll work..

any solutions to that?

in future if i've to leave my tank alone at home again...

those are the troublesome ones... can only suggest you get your family members to help you to feed or dump live copepods into your tank.

they can feast on it for a few days.

One solution I can think of is to put live rocks in your sump and dose a lot of live copepods there and let them populate in your sump. When u go overseas, catch out your mandarins and seahorse and put them in the sump. They should be able to feed on the copepods.

Otherwise i'm thinking you can use a feeder pump to pump frozen mysis mixed in a bucket of NSW up to your tank and use a timer to control the feeder pump. You could throw in an iceprobe to cool the water. But not sure if it would actually work in real life. :eyebrow:

ya.. thats something i am thinking about also... maybe will try the brine shrimp hatchery that we bought also... but that one need some monitoring... i guess can feed once and breed 2nd batch for release when we gone for short holidays...

i read that the just hatch brine shrimps are more nutritious... those adults are basically no nutrition value unless gut filled with planktons i think..
