hehe... I can control releasing 1 -2 mysis for each head. in fact the control is so good that you can actually dangle a mysis at the tip of the squirt for as long as you want.

You should really be the sales guy for reef keeping equipment, ya know? -_-

Alright! I'm going to get this thing... will check with Petmart if they carry this item.

The tunze cleaner does not seem to be mechanically effective enough and the sensitivity to water level is driving me nuts

Seriously contemplating getting an Eheim Canister to replace it.

What is the right size for my 90litre? 2213, 2215, 2217?

Get one that has a powerful enough pump to power your chiller? You will need to run it to chiller after filtering right?

what's happening bro? care to share?

Honestly, I won't recommend a canister filter for you. Do you wish to open the canister up every month to clear the detrius?

It's quite yucky! :S

- There is no drip plate. So water flowing in is not spreading to the inner area towards the back of the cleaner casing ==> suspecting that the interaction with my carbon and phospate remover is very minimal.

- very sensitive to water level. a couple of mm changes affects the effectiveness of the cleaner.

- cleaning of cannister should be ok. I will be using a thin layer of cotton. for the tunze cleaner, you would need to clean it at least twice monthly. It is bad and the denitrius tends to leak back into the main tank when you remove the cotton floss.

- only a very small pack of carbon and other media can be placed in this cleaner else the overflow will not function properly.

- I am seeing a lot of particles in my tank atm. I am assuming that it is not effective because it sucks in water from the overflow and from the bottom. Only the water from the overflow is filtered. The water sucked in from the bottom is not filtered. Garbage in garbage out.

Thoughts?

In this case, you should change to a cannister filter. If filtration is only done for the water from the overflow then it is not 100% effective. So ur intention is to get a cannister to replace the Tunze or use the cannister with the Tunze?

One thing u need to take note of when using carbon in a cannister is that the carbon should be wedged between two cotton floss filters. Otherwise you will get a lot of carbon dust in your tank. Phosphate media on the other hand need to be agitated by water to be effective in absorbing phosphates so you need to use a media tray specifically for that.

Oh I see, sounds like a lot of shit there :(

well, I guess in the end of day, it depends if you want aesthetism or practicability.

Imo, I wouldnt go for canister because it's just too much trouble going through the primings, cleanings and servicings of a cylinder every month but for the sake of something neat to look at in the tank, then canister is the way to go.

Otherwise, I will suggest a hang-on back filter attached with a surface skimmer for practical uses. Surface skimmer can do top and bottom skimming and a hang-on back filter offers you 2 compartments to allow you to put your carbon etc in. So cleaning it is quite easy and restarting it is easy too. But downside, it's not so pretty to have so many equipments hanging around on your tank but it's practical.

So end of day it depends on yourself. whether you want aesthetism or practicability (:

Hey bro, will you be running the filter through your chiller?Cause I am currently running a 2213 through a chiller and the output is really unsatisfactory IMO...So might want to take that into consideration

Oh I also trying out not putting filter pads in the canister...just using a Han-on filter each time I do water changes(to clear the cloudiness)...hope this can reduce maintenance...

Hi Jacky, I'm running a setup very similar to yours. 1.5ft cube but in addition to the nano reefpack 200, I'm running an ehiem pro II 2026 canister which also doubles up as my chiller pump. I would definately recommend this as even though my reefpack is not in yet ( waiting since 26 oct till my neck long liao), the canister keeps my water crystal clear. Maintenance is also rather simple as the pro II has a quick release intake/output port which is watertight. You just have to yank the lever and the canister base comes off. After you wash the canister and removed the gunk, you can also easily top it up with new saltmix, time this with your regular water changes and you save some effort. The Pro II comes with a self priming mechanism so it is a breeze to get the system running again. Another thing is if you connect the intake to a surface skimmer, it gives you additional filtration at the surface where ammonia builds up.

Thanks Stewp. 2213 is quite underpowered to run chiller thru it.

My tunze flowrate is at 800lph. 2217 is prob the equivalent if i want to replace it.

hey White. Yeah I remembered you asking about my Reefpack arrival quite sometime back. Still not here?

2026 sounds good. let me check out the flowrate and dimension of the canister. I have limited space to put it.

Hey cannot find your tank thread.

post some pics of your tank :)

Yup, still not here yet leh. Shipment keep delaying. haiz

FYI, the 2026 measures 210mm x 210mm x 375mm (height). Flowrate is 950l/hr. It's rated for up to 300L aquariums but I think if you drive it through the chiller, it's really just nice for our tank size.

I am too lazy to start a tank thread as yet but will do so in a while. :paiseh:

update on clam

I have removed their anchoring support this morning and at the moment, the clams seemed happy where they are.

Will monitoring closely in case they should decide to jump down the cliff one of these days.

If that happens, will just place them on the sandbed instead.

K one of the clam end up dangling on the rock. Removed it and place it on the sanded.

Hope I did not injured the gland.

The other clam is still on top of the rock.

does your clams really "move" or "jump" alot?

will they eventually settle at a spot where they are "happy"?

they move and jump alot if they are not happy with the position...

when they do settle down, it means they are happy.. =]

yah. but the small one is quite happy at the rock now. The only thing is that he is tilted slightly towards to back and I cannot get a good view of it from the front. But I do not want to disturb it already since he seems ok there. Do not think i will be able to dislodge it from the rock anyway.

Qn: If it fall off and land on another rock / sandbed (not coral) he should be able to survive 1 day at least right even without light.?
