k some update on my tank.....

1) pods cultivating mod.

I have been keeping chaeto in an egg crate box at the back of my tank. Well, the chaeto was surviving, I think pods are growing too but there are lots and lots of detritus stuck in the chaeto bunch. I tried lifting the chaeto out of the box and boom..... my tank was cloudy in an instant.

sad.gif I have got rid of the chaeto since yesterday.

2) MCE600

Got myself the above mentioned skimmer to better export waste. The 9002 is alright but I wanted something with more oomph.....

was contemplating the MCE300 but the unit really look like a prototype / poly project .... so I took the jump and went for 600.

Was initially worried that it might be too powerful for my tank... but guess my worries were unfounded.

The water output is not strong. Instead of the drip plate that they use to reduce bubbles, I had mine connected to a 90 deg pipe and drop the output into my filtersock in the tank. smile.gif After a day of using the filter sock, my tank is very very very clean and clear now. There is still some dust particles but that is because my tank is still bare bottom now. a lot of detritus on the floor.

I am also glad I did not spend the extra bucks to get the optional media box. save approx $50 on that. As long as the media is in a filter bag, the media box is not required.

The compartment itself is large enough for me to fill a bag of chemipure, a bag of phosphate remover and still have plenty of space left..... hehe....

The new MCE600 now comes with their own Deltec pump instead of aquabee and is rated at 2000lph + instead of the former aquabee 1200 lph. The air intake is also now increased to 400 lph instead of 300lph.

EDIT: also another change is the see through panel at the collection cup. you can now see the level of the waste from the front of your tank. excellent idea!

Was worried about microbubbles.... hmmmm none at all leh... the only bubbles created are the macro ones created when the water splash into the tank. but this is contained by the filter sock.

I am still using the mechanical cleaner box (from my tunze reefpack 200) to connect to my chiller. In place of the carbon, I have placed cut up pieces of poly filter instead. smile.gif

3) Next project is to try removing 2 - 3 white LEDs.

hopefully, this will give the maxspect a more bluish output and make the corals look more flourescence.

Wah... swee swee pom pee pee! Why is your vortech so high up? Too strong if placed in the middle?

thanks Peace. So so lah... I am sure yours and Bino upcoming ones are more solid......

Vortech is placed there to push water into the reefpack cleaner module.

It is rather sensitive to water level.

With the pushing of water (using short pulse), I can maximise the effectiveness of the tunze cleaner module even tho my water level dropped

also with more surface agitation, the is more oxygen too and temp is lower as well.

I am using the vortech at about 80% power at longest interval :)

I think I can max it at 100% but the motor does create some winding noise....

+1 Jacky. My tunze nano also same position, blowing towards reefpack cleaner.

Hmmm... that doesn't sound right... if its still under warranty, you might wanna consider sending it for a check? I've come across quite a number of complains on the noise issue at Nano-reef, so you might wanna browse through. Btw, Gouldian was very kind in demonstrating the MP10 during the exhibition @ Serangoon CC some time back. It still works fine with 10mm thickness.

Did you see the HOB fuge mod link I posted in the earlier pages? If you fit some filter wool, it will prevent your cheato from clogging with detritus.

Knowing you, you'd probably add on to comy's MCE 600 review, so I'll wait for pics!

Peter!!!!! lucky you ask me to check the skimmate...

I really had some wet skimmate already... infact .. 3/4 cup full......

Its not very dark but comparable to my Tunze 9002 skimmate already.

wow... very impressed....

I am now setting it to get a little more dry skimmate....

hehe... so excited.....

hmm its louder but not noisy. I think its normal kind of winding noise,

Don't think its an defect.

hmm yah I saw that.... but bro, my tank no space to hang anything already......

ask Peter... keke he saw it today.... jam pack.....

I'm confused... how would a HOB filter take up more space compared to a cheato box in the display area? Its only a tube...

ummm i have no more space to hang the HOB.....

my chaeto box is used to house the filter sock now :P

unless I hang it on the side and remove my filter sock....
