Since both my percs are both juvenile, my guess is that they are still sexless.

the one in the box should develope to be female as it is bigger in size.

The interesting thing to note is that thought the smaller one is being attacked always, last night when lights off, "he" still swim up and stay close to his attacker in the isolation box. cute.

Will be letting the other clown out tonight and see how is the reaction - whether they engage in mouth interlocking or otherwise.

I stand corrected by lemon. Did more research and clownfish are born "Protandrous hermaphrodite". Some call them born sexless, but the official definition should be born as male and able to change to female if there is a need to.

As long as you don't see any torn fins, scales dropping etc. then let them settle their social hierarchy by themselves. More human intervention might make matters worse no matter the intention.

seems like there are 2 schools of thoughts. One saying that they are born sexless and another saying the are all born male.

at least we know that the dominant female is larger and cannot change back to female.

Very excited about the possibility of witnessing the submission behaviour.

yeah will let nature takes its course unless the smaller one get whacked too hard.

more updates and comments:

- The hairy algae growth seemed to have slowed down.

- The PH now is more stable. 8.05 - 8.27

- coraline algae is starting to grow on the wall. wow not easy to remove.

- sand dollars works fantastic. every tank should have this!

- I tried to remove one of the snail from the wall and wanted to place it on the rock. Just a light tug and the shell came off! So now I have a naked snail crawling round the tank. just saw it again yesterday.

- The xenias are turning brownish :( Prefer to have them as white.

Although my bigger one does wack the smaller one, They stay together most of the time coz got alot of bigger fish ard to keep them in check. I find this the best method of keeping aggression to a minimum. Tt's why I'm planning 2 additional fishes to add in the coming months. Now tt I have more swimming space in my new scape :)

lol you pulling my leg again.

I am just trying to get them to pair up and stop fighting.

Seeing fishes fighting is not good for my girl's development. kekekeke

She still has to take care of her sibling.

PS: anyone has any news about those bloody clams in CF?

my clowns have 'lessened' their fighting, though time to time the bigger one still bullying, but not as much as before like trying to bite off what he can. I guess just takes time ? :mellow:

lol dunno. 1st time i see this - got a total shock.

I guess so long as no one disturbs the snail, it should be ok.

now I have an empty shell lying around hahahahaha

actually i quite like it this way, no bulky shell to knock off my frags :P

the snails must be careful, their shells do come out easily sometimes. I have a few snails crawling ard w/o shell. It's quite a miracle they are still alive. If I had any crabs, they would be gone in a flash.

I think better not pull out immy ... try moving the shell a little so that the snail will recess back somehow in the shell, then move left and right with a little pulling. If still moving (thus big part of the body is out and suction is strong on the glass), higher chance of that happening ... but first time i heard of it i guess lol :look:

well if I have my way, I would have removed each of their shells.

They are starting to crawl on the tank wall. worried that they might scratch my tank with their shell when they are at the 90% joint.

could be that they have gotten used to each other but they are not a mated pair?

In the beginning, there is courtship. The male try to court the female. The female thinks he's some molester, so try to defend herself.

Then after realise the male not tt bad looking, will start to develop feelings for him. But still will fight once in a while when the male tries to get into her pants.

After tt, female realise she's getting old, and there are no other males ard, so like it or not, better settle down fast... They start sharing the same home.

Finally the male.... XXXXXXX (lol x rated)

but hor... the male fertilizes the eggs outside the body, so dun think so dirty la...

The Maxima Clam is also known as the Great Clam or Rugosa Clam. The mantle is found in a variety of rich and vivid colors and patterns. In general, the Maxima Clams have larger areas of solid color than the other Tridacna clams. The two halves of the shell are elongated and lack symmetry, thus it is sometimes referred to as Tridacna elongata. It has closely spaced rows of scales on the upper portion of the shell. Its shell may reach a width of up to 12 inches. Like T. crocea, it can burrow into the substrate, but not as deeply. It may also attach by its byssal filaments, which it can do in a day. The Maxima Clams are known to live together in great congregations in the wild. Both wild and cultured Maxima Clams are found in the aquarium industry. The Maxima Clam is probably the most widely recognized species of the giant clams.

The Maxima Clam is moderately hardy and requires bright lighting supplied by metal halide lamps to live, grow, and keep its intense colors. The type of lamp will depend on the depth of the tank and the position of the clam. A daylight fluorescent tube is also recommended. The Maxima Clam requires calcium levels of 400-480 mg/L, and a carbon hardness of 7 to 12 degrees. Proper levels of strontium and iodine are also needed. The subtrate should provide multiple areas into which the clam can burrow.

The Maxima Clam relies heavily on the photosynthesis of the algae growing in its mantle. However, it should be fed daily with a yeast-based suspension unless the tank is populated with fish and corals which are fed regularly. It also requires nitrogen for proper growth, and if the nitrate level is too low, additional nitrate should be added, but the level should not be higher than 2 mg/L.

Jacky, I've heard that some people use clams to remove Nitrates... any truth in that?
