can eheim 1260 work when placed above water level?

i do not have a sump tank. i plan to use an external protein skimmer using eheim 1260 placed above the water level of my tank to draw water from the tank to the protein skimmer. will the eheim 1260 work?

brom i checked the instruction manual eheim 1260 can be use in or out sump. hope fellow reefer can give more concrete answers.

The pump can run externally.. However, the water level must be higher than the pump for it to work.

It won't have enough suction to draw water if it is above water level.
