Hi to all SRC Reefers. I need help in getting rid of this film like thing growing on my live rocks, they also contain bubbles of air underneath them. I've just set up my new tank about a few days ago and am currently cycling my tank and noticed this film growing. Water parameters are,

NO3 - 10

NO2 - 1.0

NH3 - 0.25

Please help to identify as well as how to get rid of this film. Is this some sort of algae, in that case would a UV sterilizer or Scrubber work to get rid of it?

Many Thanks in advance to all reefers who are replying.

Nichjon.

be patient. your tank has not finish cycling yet. wait for it to cycle finish. ammonia and nitrite should be zero. as your tank stabalise, ur algae should lessen. new tanks always have plenty of algae. u can get some critters to eat the algae after ur tank cycle.

to be honest, i dont see much algae. more sponges than algae.

i dunno but they do look like bryopsis... especially the second picture. any algae experts here can clarify? if it is indeed bryopsis, it is very difficult to remove as nothing will eat it. manual removal is best, along with control of nutrient levels.

for normal algae, turbo snails, hermit crabs work well. tuxedo urchins are my best choice because they are real hard workers...and might even eat ur bryopsis too! i have heard stories of tuxedo urchins chewing through power cabels so i wont be suprised if they eat that algae,

ok edit. found an article that supports the eating of bryopsis by the tuxedo urchin. this is by far the ebst algae-vore (if there is such a word) there is. i have 2 and it keeps my tank spotless by consuming whatever algae in their path. they do consume corraline, but prefer the other green algae.

When cycling, you don't need to switch on your lights, this will help to reduce the amt of algae growing if you are doing so.

When adding your snails remember not to add too many all together. Otherwise they will starve once they finish eating your algae. And have plenty of empty shells lying ard if you are getting hermit crabs unless you want them to eat up your snail for their shells.
