Looking to get either a Teco RA680 chiller or a Resun CL650 chiller.

Need advice and reviews from reefers thru experience of using either or both.

In terms of efficiency which will result in electrical consumption and ultimately electrical bill, which one is better advised?

Appreciate detailed reviews. Thanks alot :thanks:

Project R.E.

Main Tank: 48" x 18" x 24" 12mm with external overflow piping

Sump Tank: 28" x 14.5" x 12" (3 compartments)

Lightings: T5 HO - Hopar 3* 39w + ATI 2* 54w

Skimmer: Skimz Bullet Beckett

Chiller: Resun CL-650 (28 - 29 °C)

Wavemakers: 2* Seio M620 + 1* Hydor K2 (7100 litre / hr)

Fluidized Reactor: Skimz FR (currently empty)

Pumps: 1x Rio 32HF (Skimmer), 1x Rio 20HF (Return & Chiller)

Filtration: more than 80kg LRs, chaeto

Water Circulation: ~ 4000 litre / hr

Future Plans: additional wavemaker, DIY algae scrubber, DIY overflow box

Previously:

Project R : 36" x 12" x 24" 10mm reef

Why not consider Hailea as well?

Most of us prefer Hailea over Resun by far, and its comparable in price, which is to say vastly cheaper than Teco, Arctica etc.

Currently i'm running an Arctica which i think is quite worth it as the warranty is 2 yrs or 1 yr can't remember... For teco i'm not sure u can call AM and inquiry with them... :eyebrow:

1ft cube with IOS [the low tech tank]

1. JBJ C-breeze to keep temp hovering around 27-28'C

2. LED clip on - 120 bulbs

-skimmer-less-

My 3 humble equipments that keeps my tank running... [DRIED OUT]

1. The RSM itself of course 2.My NEW Deltec MCE-300 Skimmer 3. My trusty Arctica Chiller

Tank parameters:

Temperature maintained at 25.3'C to 24.7'C

No3: 10ppm(b4 the use of the deltec skimmer)

No3: 5ppm (after use of the skimmer)

Others? too lazy to measure...LOL

Camera- EOS 50D

I think Teco RA680 is the older model. Not sure if you can still find this model brand new (Maybe at RD?). Even if you do, it's tough to compare between the both. I think the Teco is prob more efficient than the Resun, but is the initial price difference justifiable if you save $5-10 monthly on electrical bills? You can't expect the Teco to be like 50% more efficient right?

btw, Teco's warranty period should be 2 years... so that's another factor to consider.

no no. sorry didn't make myself clear. say if both are same price and 2nd hand used for same number of years. just want to see which one more efficient based on your experience of usage

When buying used, I guess the deal breaker is the condition of the chiller. w/o more information like number of years used, last service date, I would choose the teco over the resun. Chinese brands don't tend to last very long. I know some bros have had good experience with their resun running for >5yrs, but it's like buying a 2nd hand car. I would rather buy a used toyota/honda over chery. Period. :D

comycus u used either one chiller before?

my comparison will be everything constant, which one more efficient and in the long run, cost saving in electricity bills

me using the newer teco: TR15. quiet, efficient, reliable.

maybe don't qualify to comment on comparison hor?

but just my 2 cents... Anyway, do consider Fuzzy's recommendation. To me, I would go for a used Hailea than a used Resun. Maybe it's just me, but a used Resun is too unreliable in my books to even consider if it's efficient enough in helping me save my electricity bills.

ok... maybe tt was 5 cents worth
