Just to check with all bors. Is it normal as my chiller takes bout 30mins to cool 0.5 deg and it runs for 30 min every 2hrs. Am I overworking it? Or is this normal? Cos I have read some people chiller runs for 10mins ( but sound like a drastic drop leh). I am running through my return pump (ehiem 1260/2400lt per hr). Do I need to get another pump for the chiller?? I am using a 1/4hp chiller to chill bout 75 gallons of water.

Just to share this.

I use a eheim 1260 (2400l/hr) alone for my chiller, it will run 10mins every hour. variance at +/- 0.5 degree.

When I T-off my return pump which is a 3000l/hr, I suspect the flow rate is like 800l/hr, the chiller will run 25mins every 2 hours.

so, now I use back the eheim 1260.

my tank is abt a 3ft tank, with a 3ft sump. :)

Chiller is the Korean brand, 1/3hp

My chiller is placed beside my tank...in open area,I am sure it have the best ventilation.

I still think that...it is abnormal to run for 4-5hrs in order to bring the temp.2 degrees down.

Do I need to service or gas charging for my compressor?

Pls advise...

Thanks

You mean the chiller only kick in when the temp change by 2 deg?? isnt that a bit large variation. Normally the chiller will kick in when the temp change by 1/2deg. Also if it runs for 4-5hrs non stop it is definitely over working. My tank drop about .5deg in less than 30min. And run once every 2hrs. But also depends on what temp you set.

One question for bros. What pump you guys use for the chiller? seperate pump or the return? the spec of you pump? I using 1/4HP. Thanks

I am using canister filter to chiller eheim 2217 specs 1000l/hr rate

I have call up aquatechnic they say ...factory preset is 2 degree different to cut in compressor.

I think this is the preset problem ,maybe ur chiller preset timing is shorter from other maker.

So...anybody here using Teco chiller would like to clarify??

How is Teco chiller member here ...using their chiller cut in and out

of 2 degree??

Pls help me bros.

:thanks:

actually there is a reason why some chillers are set at 2 deg differential/hystersis. If the temp controller's accuracy only has a resolution to the nearest one, meaning no decimal point then setting 2 deg should be proper. For example if the target temp is set at 25 deg, the hystersis range in actual would be between 25.9 to 27.0 deg. since it cannot react to 0.1 deg changes, when the chiller cool till 25.9 deg, the registering temp would already be 25 on the controller display hence it would cut off. similarly when temp reaches 26.9, a 0.1 deg increment would kick on the chiller on at 27 deg! so the actual change in temp is 1.1 deg! tt's the problem with my temp controller. accuracy is to nearest 1 deg. if i set hystersis to 1 deg, then the chiller will shut down between 25.9 and 26.0-26.1 deg which is only 0.1-0.2 hystersis! dumb isn't it!

sounds like Eido. :P

Eido hystersis is at two because when the water is purged out from the exchanger unit, the temperature starts to increase. since the probe is set into the exchanger itself *I Think!*, therefore a 1deg hystersis will cause the chiller to turn on and off and on and off. :P

display may read 25deg but actual temp is really 26deg! so if I set hystersis to 3 at temp of 25, the actual body of water is at 26deg and my chiller will turn on at 28! hehz

complicated...took a while to understand.

hehe..yeah took me a while to figure y the chiller snaps in every 1/2hr and run a short while when i remember some of you telling me tt their chiller can rest for 1-2 hrs before kicking in again! anyway i put my temp probe in the 1st compartment of my sump where water enters from the main tank. The chiller release goes to the sump's last compartment where the water get mix and pump back into the main tank.
