HellBliss
hey guys.. i have a few LPS.. open brain, cynarina, moon, but i realise they dn extend their tentacles at all.. heard they extend them to feed at night. i had the brain for a month already but i never see it extend tentacles. not even once.. it swells pretty huge during the day though.. can advise whether this is normal? or is something wrong? Guest
it should be normal , as some of the tentacles from these corals is not really visible to our bare eyes especially in the night .
SRC Member iskay Posted August 28, 2009 SRC Member Share Posted August 28, 2009 For me, Cynarina should deflate at night and extend feeding tentacles. Same goes to Acans. Blastos & bubble normally deflate at night with not much tentacles out. Quote "Be formless... shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. Senior Reefer yikai Posted August 28, 2009 Senior Reefer Share Posted August 28, 2009 usually, my new corals will not extend feeding tentacles when i first buy. to make them do this, place some food on them when u want them to eat. i do that every evening when i first get them. after a few days, they will auto extend their tentacles. i did this for my brain, candy cane and favia. How do u 'place' food on the coral? i tried to squirt ard the area n it just floats away (my vortech was already on feeding mode), worse was my hands touched the coral then the tentacles retracted. Shutdown all wavemakers. I used market prawns cut into sizes small enough for the coral's mouth. Place on top of the corals, if the corals are hungry it will open its mouth and gobble the tidbit in 10-30 minutes. Can also use squid, clams, fish, brine, krill, mysid, and any other seafood. Senior Reefer yikai Posted August 29, 2009 Senior Reefer Share Posted August 29, 2009 i use mysis. just squirt around them and off all wavemakers. usually my shrimmp will go eat it, but a little bit is enough to let the coral know there is food on it. they are very sensitive and can sense food. Senior Reefer yikai Posted June 14, 2010 Senior Reefer Share Posted June 14, 2010 not all LPS respond to feeding at night certain LPS like plate, elegance, torch, hammer, frogspawn etc feed during the day. others like favia, brain etc feed at night, but can be trained to feed during the day
