Frozen or Pellet

Wanna find out if there is any difference in feeding fish frozen food or pellet. (ie. holding all other factors constant, compare say ON's formula 1 pellets vs. frozen)

1. Is frozen more readily accepted by fishes?

2. Does feeding frozen food have more potential to pollute the tank?

3. Is frozen food more nutritious or better in any way than pellets?

I'm leaning towards a 50/50 feeding regime made up of frozen and pellets. One each per day. How does that sound like?

From my personal experience, frozen are readily taken while pellets takes time for fishes to recognize as food. In order to lessen the pollution to your tank, you can thaw frozen food in a plastic strainer and discard the liquids.

There are some pellets that are able to provide as much nutrition as frozen food if not better.

Personally, I prefer pellets as I don't have time/patience to wait for the food to thaw.

Recently, I am also trying out a pellet that is supposed to be more envirnmentally friendly. http://www.dragonfeeds.com/index.php?optio...&Itemid=109 drop me a PM if you want some to try.

;)

Thanks bro! Gonna start stocking up slowly as my tank conditions seem to have stabilised. Will keep your pellets in mind!

No worries.

Like what you have in mind, a varied diet is important to the optimum health of your fishes. Persoanlly, I have on hand 3-4 types of pellets plus nori which I will feed to my fishes.

Bro, must see what kind of fish you have. My BT obviously not fast to fight with my clowns n chromis when it comes to pallet, so definitely must standby some seaweed on clip for him to nip at.... :)

Feeding Pallets during the morning, with nori seaweed for my Blue Tang.

Frozen food only once or twice a week, to control bioload, cos my tank small. MUST drain off the liquid of the frozen food!!! I usually drain, then soak the mysis shrimps in garlic juice before feeding...

Happy feeding...

ooh thanks! will remember to drain the liquid from the frozen food.

I'm thinking of feeding pellets (formula 1&2) in the morning before I leave for work, coz need to save time and hassle. Night will vary between reef nutrition's Arcti-pods, hikari frozen brine, ON's frozen prime reef and spirulina, and Henry's.

err... is tt overkill? I see all these variety also feel hungry le :yeah:

I usually thaw all my frozen mysis and brine shrimp at one go, then rinse them in distilled water mixed with vitamin c (natural preservative) to get rid of the nutrient rich frozen water. After that I refreeze them in a 1cm cube ice tray. I think should be 48 cubes in all, for my nano tank, that's 1 month's worth of work. Works very well for me so far, able to keep my water very clean.

My 1.5ft nano cube

My 24G nano tank (Decommed)

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate.

And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.
