algae growth on leather

Hi,

I have an algae bloom. There are green algae on a leather coral, will it harm the coral? So far, the coral is still opening up very well.

That's ridiculous! The leather will clear the algae by producing a mucous tunic to slough the algae off.

What's the cause of the bloom?

Yeah.. By right there shouldn't be any algae on any healthy corals... Do remove the algae as it would block out the light from your leather coral and check on the leather coral to make sure it's alright...

Is your leather still alive in the first place?

Its alive, the polyps are growing. The algae growth is only on the stalk, not the disk itself. Algae bloom is due to me changing my light to PL light.

Show a pix! Algae is an enemy of corals because they will fight for space and light. They will take the opportunity to grow on the dead areas of corals and are very hard to remove.

i gave away leather coral for free

once leather too stress they will release some sort

of toxic if i am not wrong

Weird, tonite I see the algae layer peeling off from my leather's stalk. Think by sunday it will come off. However now the base is extending and the other end seems to have polyps forming.

Also, is it common for anemones to move about after settling in for 5 mths? Not floating around but slowly shifting?

And ermm... Yeah anemones do shift from time to time (though I read that a really really happy anemone will gladly only stick to 1 place)... But as long as water parameters are still ok and lighting good, you have nothing to worry about your anemone except it maybe stinging your corals...
