what's the features of LED and PL lamps, what's the difference between them?

stupid questions again, forgive me...

LED = Light Emitting Diode

PL = Power Compact Lamp

Comparing with PL, LEDs are smaller, higher intensity, accurate spectrum, provides shimmering effect and consumes lesser power thus more efficient.

PL was previously the lamp of choice but was later replaced by HO (High Output) T5 and now some reefers are trying to replace HO T5 or even MH (Metal Halide) with LED.

thanks, Gouldian. As you said, LED is now more widespread, am i right? in fact i am looking for a aquarium light. if Led is better, what kind of led aquarlight is the most popular? sometimes the prices is largely different. i've narrowed it in two types, 156w Fluorescent T5 LED Aquarium Light Reef Lamp & 216 LED Grow Light for Plant & Coral Aquarium Blue Red

no doubt that the expensive one is better but does it do anything better for the fish than the cheap one? or just because it looks nice and consume less electricity?

Based on your previous posts, I assume you have a reef tank.

The Odyssea is a normal 4 tube t5 fixture. These lightings are typically used by many reefers, and are good for reef tank, where strong lighting is needed for coral photosynthesis. You can consider this for your tank, adding additional tubes in future if you require stronger lights.

The LED shouldn't be considered in a reef tank due to its colour spectrum and light intensity. You typically want the blue spectrum for corals and whites to have a more natural effect in the fish tank. If choosing LEDs for a reef tank, you will require high output LEDs. typically 3W/LED, and a whole lot of other requirements. This fixture averages 0.2W/LED. In short, too underpowered for a reef tank, and wrong colour.

Umm... your tank is 2ft, and you claimed to have bought a HQI MH light from the same website (under great recommendation from your friend) you were touting in your previous thread. How come you are looking at a 3 feet fixture now?

Dachkie pointed out in the previous thread that US products use 110V which is not compatible locally.

I hope this is not some elaborate scam to push up the google ranking of the dodgy site, you don't sound local :eyebrow:

TheLaShop.com / YescomUSA.com which were linked in the last thread are actually the same company which has a very bad reputation. Everytime someone posts a bad review, a stellar review that sounds like an advertisement will follow proclaiming them to be the best.

If I've wrongly accused you, I'll apologise sincerely. And by the way, the LED lights you pointed out are for fresh water plants, nobody uses full red light for marine tank.
