Zoa losing color

hi reefers,

can anyone advise why Zoa is losing it's color? Colony used to be green blue, mixed with red purple. Now mostly red purple and colony becoming smaller Also, it doesn't spread across the tank like what I read in internet or other forums threads.

I practice 10% water change every 2 weeks. White light switch on during day, blue light during evening and night. Water flow is medium to low.

Is it some kind of nutrients lacking? What must I add?

What kind of light, switch on for how long a day, how far away from the light are the zoas? Most likely it's insufficient lighting, a tell tale sign is overly extended stems from reaching out for more light.

But then again, I've had success with some zoas, but fail with others under the same condition. Some do well in super clean water, some thrive in nitrate rich water, dunno why also haha. Dose vitamin C if all else fails, worked well for me so far.

Anyway, zoas don't "spread across the tank" so easily, my fastest growing zoas grow at a rate of 2 small polyps every 3 weeks, I don't know what's the average speed, but to grow completely across the tank, I think it would take months or years.

eh yo binosage , would it be possible to revive zoas which have lost their colour cause recently my tank crashed due to a power failure when i wasnt in the country.

i managed to save the zoas , they're doing okay , just that the colours have faded alot and they shrank alot too... they've been surviving till now , but was wondering if there was any way to get their colours back? (;

Faded colours can recover, just need patience and maintain the water parameters. I usually cut my losses early and remove all the polyps that seems shrunken and dying, so it won't spread to the healthier ones. Zoa care you need to ask the pros like ambystoma .

Did the radioactive greens that I passed you survive? I remember there was a couple of fallen off frags in the tank haha.

Oh yah, you got around to installing a chiller yet? Or using fan? I find that my zoas faded more frequently and never recover in my chiller-less tank as compared to the one with chiller.

Oh is it? I didn't know that, cos last time I have been advised to place those long stem zoas nearer to light source, and it seemed to help - I naturally assumed it's due to light. You are probably right though, cos I don't read up extensively on zoa care
