cauliflower coral.....

I got 1 red one and a normal one in my tank.

Read that it's very tough to keep, I also just start keeping it for 2 weeks. So far so good.. need constant supply of phytoplankton and waterflow. Light is not so much of a concern.

I read that too... How often do u dose the phytoplankton? I just dose some yesterday when i first bought it. It's opening now...

If i were to dose some daily, wonder how bad it will affect my water condition...

Also read that the water circulation must not be uni direction all the time...

I culture phytoplankton. So supply of food isn't an issue for me, even with skimmer on. I dose about 1 liter every 3 days.

And I dont have direct water blowing at it. It collapse in the morning after no light.. and in the night with my MH.. it stand straight and talk with my MH and chiller.

Think lighting is not an issue, but not sure if the cool water and phytoplankton plays apart. Phytoplankton is life food, so no worry it badly affect my water condition.

1 litre is quite a lot rite. Unless ur tank realli big.

I believe phytoplankton is impt for this coral.

Tank size is 4x2x2.5.

Phytoplankton is important for many corals.

Culturing isn't diffuult, provided you have the culture kit.

Using 1.5liter bottle. Prepare 1 liter bottle saltwater 1.02 salinity, fill another 400ml of phytoplankton, add 0.6ml of fert, blow slow bubble for 7 to 10 days 24/7 light

With my current culture kit, I can culture 6x1.5liter 1 shot.

Don't be mistaken by the black round thing. IT's the brineShrimp culture kit. I put it under the light so that hatched brine shrimp will swim to the center for collective.

I think cauliflower occurs underneath in caves in nature...MAybe duplicating the natural environment ba...

It's a live food rather than dead food which may deteriorate the water if overdose.

If i wouldn't cause much pro... then i may consider dosing daily for my cauliflower...

ANyway, DT plankton has got an expiry date. There's this sticker on the bottle.

But if the plankton doesn't stink, which means it's not dead, can we still use it after its expiry date?

Although DT is live..it does'nt give you any reason to overdose. All live stuff will die eventually. They might just die in your tank after going thru filter media, pump impellers etc...

For me I dose everyday and i already notice I get slight green algae on my front glass everyday.. I just leave the skimmer off during feeding...after 3-4 hours I on it again...skim out the excess phyto.

O...no, i will not overdose. Will not wanna cause any algae boom or perhaps nitrate increase.

I will direct feed my cauli a small amt onli...Then perhaps in a larger amt for the other corals once a week. Shdn't be overdosing i guess...

If your cauliflower needs to be target fed. I could suggest this to u..I just thought of it..invert a glass bottle over it...then pump the phyto in..leave it in the phyto soup for a duration that you are comfortable with.

Cauliflowers are high maintenance corals.

Requiring dedication in feeding them the right kind of food on a regular basis, daily. Because of this, it is usually the case where either the tank overloads and causes algae blooms or the cauliflower coral begins to starve and shrink.

It's your choice.... but even when I was dosing live cultured phtyo... it just took a much longer time before it eventually

shrank... and I had to fight a minor nuisance algae bloom.

That's why they say its not a coral recommended even for advanced reefers as you should create a species-only tank for them.
