almost the same capacity except that 851 is tall and slim and 701 is fat and short. 701 came in later due to constraint in sump or cabinet for the 851. Both can be in or out sump. Using ehiem needle wheel. Hope this help.

the 851 was still for sale when i was there in the evening.... better go grab fast if u wan....think realli worth to get, 1st hand item at 2nd hand price
