Do i need another wave maker?

Recommended Posts

Using tunze 6060 at one side, and my return pump is aquabee 3000.

There is a area that is not covered by the wave then everytime dust will trap there.

Do i need another wave maker for my FOWLR tank which is 4 x 2 x 2.5ft.

If so where should i place it and which wavemaker? :thanks:

bro, you already identified the dead spot. Hence, the next thing is to get a wave maker to direct current at that spot. Depending on the placement and whether you have other intention for the wave maker, it will help you to determine the capacity and type.

Tank : 4 X 2 X 2 with low iron front panel and external overflow

Skimmer : BK SM200 with waste collector

Return Pumps : Red Dragon 6m3 and Ehiem 1262

FR : 2 X Deltec 509 & powered by AB2000

Nitrate Filter : Deltec NF 509 and tee off from AB2000

Calcium R'tor : Deltec PF 501 with RM secondary chamber

Kalkwasser R'tor : Deltec KM500

Chiller : Pansonic 1 HP Compressor with 20m titanium Coil

Wave Makers : 4 X Tunze 6055 with 7096 & Vortec MP40w

Controller : GHL Profilux

Lighting : ATI Powermodule 10 or 8 tubes

Water Top-up : Water Top-Up tank powered by Tunze Osmolator

External Monitor : American Pinpoint pH and Temp. Monitor for main tank and GHL Profilux Controller to measure temp, pH, Redox

Ozonizer : Sander C50

UV : Corallife 6x

Algae Scrubbler

hmmm bro, i am thinking of adding another wave maker to blow at that direction, looking at tunze 6065 or 6060. But i am also thinkiing if i change my return pump to aquabee 5000 will it help? cos my outlet for the return pump can be adjust to face that dead area and can increase the water cycle of tank. Which method will be better?:thanks:

with one less pump, less heat and less energy consuming, etc. However, when you mention about adjusting, you need to be sure after the adjustment, it will not create new dead spot......if this is assured, i will choose this option over getting another wave maker. : )

Another idea could be lower your wave maker to provide more flow at the bottom level of the tank...

I think since u tank is quite high...& the return pump & the wave maker are circulation water at only higher level.

It worth a try before considering buying another wave maker.

I see. hmm but i think adding a tunze 6065 the energy consuming is lower compare to upgrading my pump to aquabee 5000. Which will use up more energy and produce more heat. Hee any other suggestions from other brothers/sisters here?

what about splitting your return to 2 outlets? this may help if you are able to adjust the second outlet to face the dead spot... however, the return flow will also be weaker by half...

the other alternative is to use SCWD?

Switching Current Water Director (SCWD)

SCWD uses your existing pump to create bidirectional water movement in your reef aquarium.
