Prawn in the fish tank for cycling

while cycling the tank with prawns, do we need to put in LR, on the filter,protein skinner and power head ????

u will get a better understanding after reading it... i remember i used to cycle with a 3.5" (head to tail) prawn with shell... n the prawn disintegrate within 1 week..

thanks I currently have about 17kg of lr inside there and how do you determine whether your water circulation is good ?

17 kg LR in a 3 feet tank too little leh. I think rule of thumb is 1 kg for every 2 gallons of water.

for me to know whether water circulation is good during cycling is that the water must be able to create pot holes in your sand when it is running. Don't know how to calculate flow rate and every thing but I'm using a Eheim 1262 as a return and a Weipro 7000 through a SCWD for the alternating wave motion.

Do we actually need to remove the shrimp after the cycling process kick-off ? Or just let the shrimp rot till the cycle completed ?

wouldn't that prolong the cycling process(NO2>NO3) as compared taking out the shrimp once the cycle kick-off ?

I'd rather prolong and ensure that its properly cycled rather than to guess-ti-mates.
