waime
Hi reefers, I've read some if not most of the threads on cycling and quarantine processes but still got some questions.. appreciate if you could provide guidance: 1) During cycling period (tank with only LR without LS and dosed with addictives), do you run the skimmer and FRs? Any harm if you run it? 2) Quarantine of new fishes is highly recommended. How about for inverts, clams, corals or plants eg. red bamboo (food for tangs), do these need to be quarantined in a separate tank dosed with medication or can straightaway dump into the main tank? Cheers!
Solo77
personally, i think you dont have to run FR. Maybe skimmer also. However, you need to ensure good water circulation. If the water has foul smell, then run skimmer or do water change. During cycling, algae bloom, etc seems to speed up the cycling. As for your question whether coral, etc needs to quarantine, i will say treat them rather than quarantine them. Reason being you want to remove those parasite. Take zoa for example, there might be nudi and you got to treat and place in quarantine tank before confirming it is safe not not causing wide spread of parasite to those healthy corals in your tank. just my personal opinion. me learning also. All the best. Cheers! not necessary .... as sugegsted by bro Solo, i would think that circulation and make sure your water have enough oxygenated is important for the growth of aerobic bacteria... however, there is no harm in running them. in fact, it is good to run phosphate remover right from the start =) invert, coral are usually unable to tolerate medication like copper... unable to quarantined them with med... however u can isolated them and observed to prevent spreading of parasite should there be any? invert like shrimps may carry hitchhiker like ich parasite however they are unaffected by it... so it will be best if u leave it one site for a while to let the ich die off without host to ensure that ur tank have absolute no parasite Quote 2x1.5x1.5 tank Lighting: AI hydra 52HD Skimmer: Deltec SC 1455 Reactor: Minimax; rowaphos Skimz ; NP biopellets Wave Maker: MP 40 WQD Return pump: Eheim 1262 Chiller: Arctica 1/10 hp A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel -- Proverbs 12:
