LED FL tubes

Those interested can check it out at Nature Aquarium at Balestier hill shopping complex. Just came across it yesterday.

Essentially you can use the tube in a normal FL fixture, and it's pure 100% LED. :eyebrow:

Always something more important than fish.

from what i know of these LED tubes offhand, they operate at around 10 - 15W.... not much, but the added bonus is low heat production. The lm/w rating for the LEDs used in this set up SHOULD be either equal or slightly lower than a standard T5. Oh ya - 2 more added bonus - LEDs do not dim over (usage) time and last MUCH (x 10 to the power of 5 million whatever) longer then a standard T5. You may want to consider getting it for a softie tank as softies do not need much light the first place anyway.. my estimate is that LED lighting will only be feasible for marine tanks in around 3 - 5 years time when its lm/w rating as well as its power consumption (in watts per LED) has been improved. And that's what i will be getting for my 6 foot tank when i start working..... would be nice to have the actual specs though.....

If i'm not wrong the spectrum of those leds are far off what reefers are after. Either 6500k or even lower. Some people have noticed it's light being yellowish which isn't nice for marine tanks.

Those leds are meant for planted tanks.

LEDs come in a variety a different spectra. The question is IF they sell those LEDs with the spectra reefers want. The only way to find out is to go there...

I've been there before. Pretty sure they are only selling one spectrum of led tubes atm.

Did tried out similar LED flourscent T5 tube bought from e-bay.. i feel that is more for industry use and not for marine / coral as i find it too yellow althought it is stated as 10K..
